I agree

For a first time GM Murray has won some and lost some. There are a lot of what ifs and do overs I am sure he would like back.

He wasn't going to get it exactly right the first time around.

The Kane trade and his play the last 3 months is the type of player Murray was expecting. Now lets see if it continues.

Again Murray knows he needs to fix the blueline, he said it himself that's on him. Let's see what he can do this is certainly the offseason to do it.

If Kulikov & Bogo worked out,
We'd be in the playoffs right NOW

Murray said he wasn't gonna win every trade
All GMs make mistakes

He has a good opportunity to fix the blueline this offseason
The Expansion Draft is great timing for us
And we're set up to take advantage of teams in a tough spot
But if Murray messes up here as well...
then he's probably Toast

AND we quite possibly get Strome instead of Eichel
Wtf do u guys keep bring this up?
It's dumb
Of course it would be great if we had Laine or Matthews
But u can literally play that game EVERY year
We weren't trying to be the Oilers & draft in the top3 for over half a decade
The 2 year tank was bad enough
It was time to start getting better
And we are headed in the right direction

- jdfitz77

These few posters/experts aren't happy unless they use every opportunity to rip/second guess Murray for trying to get better. It's exhausting and the main reason I stay off this site.

Lol
I should know better, right?!

I hate some of the stuff Murray did

Trading McNabb
Reaching for forwards in round2 of the 2015 draft when we were deep at the position & higher ranked defensemen were available
And I didn't like the 1st for Lehner

Trading for O'Reilly was not a mistake
Kane is a pretty damn good player
Okposo was a GREAT signing

This offseason will determine Murray's fate
If we don't make the playoffs next year,
Both he & Bylsma are gone

He's done well, AND screwed some deals up imo

Bottom line...
he fixes the defense this offseason & we are a playoff team next year

We aren't that far off now & that's with just about everything going wrong for us this year

He also needs to fix the defense in Rochester too though
And draft more defense
He's failed from top to bottom imo as far as defense goes

I hear ya'. I post intermittently because of the excessive negativity on this forum. A balanced perspective would be nice. Extremes in any form are bad. Murray has done some good things and missed on others. Same with Disco. Same with the Pegula's. I am in the same boat as all of them - some good decisions and some that I regret. The difference between the three of them and myself is that I am only accountable to my wife, my kids and my dog Jake. And as long as Jake doesn't crap on the inside of my house, I am happy.

You know what else is exhausting? Posts like this one saying it's exhausting to hear people's what-ifs and female dogings.

I mean, gee, why even have a message board in the first place? So you can get exhausted "reading" and not come. Okay.

Not saying it was you, but at around the All-Star game, people were on here banging the "This isn't the 90's anymore, you need offense to win championships now" drum saying our D wasn't the problem because you just need to outscore opponents in "Today's" NHL.

That tune pretty much flipped when everyone realized it wasn't missing Jack that made this team suck, it was this team sucks and that's what made them suck and it's from the bottom up.

I have a very hard time believing anyone who says they'd be fine with this team being in it's 4th straight completely poop season. Sure, fine, there'd be 2-3 additional pieces to fawn over, but the amount of pissing and moaning about those types of continued seasons would outweigh any positivity of even MORE waiting on potential

Hey now, there's a quite a few pro-tank people on here and just because you don't agree with their views don't mean you get to come on here and bash them and tell them they aren't right just because you're a ref.

It's just a difference of opinion and he won, deal with it.

People who thought that at the AllStar break were wrong though
With Jack back, we've been top10 in scoring
But regardless what was said then...
I think almost all of us agree that the defense needs work
Murray even said that's what he has to fix
I think this offseason is do or die for that
No playoffs next year & I think Murray is a goner

All this nonsense about not trading for Kane or O'Reilly is BS though

We're top-10 in scoring since he came back, but if I'm not mistaken, bottom-10 in defense since he came back as well.

Right?
Last year if we sucked MAYBE we get Laine
And this year, MAYBE we could get Patrick or Hischier
And next year we should suck so we can get (whoever)

BUT WHEN DO WE ACTUALLY TRY TO WIN?!
Bc u could make the argument EVERY year that we'd be better of with the 2nd pick instead of the 10th
Well no sh!t Sherlock...
but it's rare u jump from horrible to the playoffs & sustain that success

As far as I know, even with Darcy...
the plan was to get McEichel & then "go for it"
I don't remember that plan ever changing

We're moving in the right direction

I think that's correct

Nilsson hasn't been as good as he was early on in the season
Defense has been mediocre all year
We definitely need to get that straightened up

IMO Murray should get until next season's end.

It will give him 4 drafts, 5 deadlines, 4 off-seasons.

If we aren't contenders next year, something isn't right.

We....aren't....winning now.

The irony is we will absolutely have to trade one of our core forwards to get a D man that has the ability to bring us close to a contender.

No, new set of eyes. That's if this team doesn't do close to a 180 next year.

Most rebuilding teams go through multiple coaches and GM's before getting it right

When Murray has a complete team (2 years from now) and we still suck ........ then it's time to start thinking about making a move. So (3-4) years is what I'm suggesting.

If we are top 3 in the division next year, he's gonna stay a while IMO.

If we miss again with this core, they are gonna clean house IMO

We're TRYING to win though, not tanking
And we're headed in the right direction

If Bogo & Kulikov had worked out, we'd be in the playoffs this year
Was it injuries to them? Was Murray just wrong?
Whatever
They didn't work
Now he's gotta bring in a couple guys who will work
Idk that he needs to trade Kane or Reinhart, etc to do that
We disagree there

But getting Kane, O'Reilly & Okposo were not bad moves
They aren't part of the problem
And your ridiculous scenario where we get Laine or Matthews & don't have all 3 of them, and probably don't have Jack either, wouldn't put us closer to the playoffs

The plan was get McEichel & then "go for it"
And that's what we've been doing
But some of Murray's other moves (defense) caused a bump in the road...
but we're still headed in the right direction

I would also suggest Murray is one of the brightest talent evaluators of all GM's. I'm not sure there's a better GM out there for a rebuilding club actually.

I can wait.
