To be frank, I don't think the team is really missing any of the players that were traded away.

If we are top 3 in the division next year, he's gonna stay a while IMO.

If we miss again with this core, they are gonna clean house IMO

He has 1/2 of a team now .............by this time next year he'll have 3/4 of a team.. We'll be sniffing playoffs next year.

That being said I think we would miss Reinhart unless it was for a top 2 dman.

I think that's fair & reasonable
Totally agree
Playoffs next year or Murray & Bylsma are gone
And should be

I would also suggest Murray is one of the brightest talent evaluators of all GM's. I'm not sure there's a better GM out there for a rebuilding club actually.

I can wait.

I question his evaluation of defensemen
He seems to have gotten almost every move with them wrong

We're TRYING to win though, not tanking
And we're headed in the right direction

If Bogo & Kulikov had worked out, we'd be in the playoffs this year
Was it injuries to them? Was Murray just wrong?
Whatever
They didn't work
Now he's gotta bring in a couple guys who will work
Idk that he needs to trade Kane or Reinhart, etc to do that
We disagree there

But getting Kane, O'Reilly & Okposo were not bad moves
They aren't part of the problem
And your ridiculous scenario where we get Laine or Matthews & don't have all 3 of them, and probably don't have Jack either, wouldn't put us closer to the playoffs

The plan was get McEichel & then "go for it"
And that's what we've been doing
But some of Murray's other moves (defense) caused a bump in the road...
but we're still headed in the right direction

- jdfitz77

Yeah, they aren't, they also might have prevented us from drafting Matthews or Laine. Guys who would have put us on a trajectory to being great

Sorry, I'd have rather taken my chances to draft that high again, and keep the assets for the next Kane or O'Reilly types who are available all the time.

Hell, Matt Duchene will be traded this year. Rick Nash most likely.

Than that's on him if he only has 3/4 of a team. He chose his approach

No. He shouldn't have made them. Period. He should have taken it slow.

If he LOVED O'Reilly, or LOVED Kane, I can see jumping on one of them. But trading for ROR, Kane and Lehner within months was a mistake.

I truly believe it. That doesn't mean I don't think the above are good players.

But we went through "suffering" to become great

Just out of curiosity, let's pretend it's March 2018 and we're steam rolling teams on our way to a playoff run with all the guys you mentioned being keys to our team playing well. What is your take then?

Did you read the beginning of the convo where I said I want to give this GM until end of next year?

I'm pretty sure the only two thoughts that run through your head have to do with Ristolainen and Bylsma

That is exactly why I asked. You seem so sure that ROR and Kane were the wrong moves at the wrong time but yet you're ok with him going another year. It seems conflicting. I'm genuinely curious if you are going to still be here telling us how he rushed the rebuild even if they are playing well next year.

This all hinges on whether he's able to land a top flight defender without including some of this core he's already put together.

Mistakes can be fixed. He deserves a shot to fix them.

But you morphed your point. ROR and Kane moves don't really matter to that. Hell it's unlikely but Bogo could come out next year and play like a legit #2, Guhle could become a bona-fide #3 and we are a lucky shot in the dark away with guys like Casey Nelson, Falk, Fedun, or any FA signing from filling out a much improved d core.

If that happens are you going to relent and send a hand written apology to Tim Murray for doubting him?
