4.1 millions dollars. Looking to be extended for over 5mil a year and the mental midget can't play four straight games.

I don't give a (frank) what your psychological analysis is. It just seems to be good goalie management and Hak doesn't seem to be very good at it.

This is the first I'm hearing about what his contract demands are.

I agree with you.

I was just commenting this guy talks about how he is an elite goalie and he expects to be paid like one, but he can't even go four straight games.

Both Kanes PP GOAL and Backstroke OT GOAL where the same. They had the puck on the right wall, moved towards the middle has a left hand shot. A total screen was set up and Made had to lean to his left or right to see. I assume since the play was moving from his left to right he leaned to the right to find the puck just as the shot was ripped back across the grain to his left. Never had a chance to see the shot.

Did you read somewhere about what he was asking for contract wise?

I actually doubt he gets 5 plus anywhere.

I'd pay real money to see Carcillo run Cooke into the boards. That slimy (frank) deserves it.

I do wonder if he is seeking a bigger deal that the Flyers are not willing to give.

I think he could get a decent contract out of Buffalo or Calgary. Hell even Vancouver, Winnipeg and Dallas may have interest. Something has me thinking Mason's time in Philadelphia is done. Liked him.

I'm with you, Neuvirth also has much better career numbers vs the Leafs IIRC

Mason has had a lot of time in Philadelphia where he has played more than '4 straight'.

One could argue he has been played too much, especially when obviously banged up. Hak does ride his goalies until they collapse.

Mason has been a damn good goaltender for the poop show defense in front of him for the majority of his tenure here. Good soldier.

It was reported that Hexy did not reach out to Mason's rep about an extension

Saw that too.

Not sure what to make of that. Things seem so much more tight lippped in terms of leaks under Hextall.

Long way away from the Dry Island days. Really think Mason would have been a great stopgap for the next few years. If he is seeking that kind of extended and expensive deal then I do agree with looking elsewhere.

Correct. Flyers have not started a dialogue.Since no numbers have been exchanged as of yet, any reports about asking price are therefore just speculation.

I think it's pretty clear the organization isn't bringing back Mason next season

It makes sense with the expansion draft. Id put money on him not coming back, but there's a chance he does. Chance increases if Neuvirth gets picked. I don't think he is getting 5 million at all, but continuing this stretch will be a big help.

Yikes, if that is the case, they must think Stolarz or Lyon is closer than we thinks.

Bill, what is your feeling on this? Do you think Mason is not coming back? And is that an organizational decision or Mason or mutual?

Hockey people still don't particularly like Steve Mason because of "reputation"......he's coming off a down year too....I just can't see him getting this giant contract people are saying he would demand.

If he gets more than 2-3 years at $4 million, so basically his current contract, I'd be surprised. No GM is giving this goalie some long-term contract and at anything above his current wages. Which makes it all the stupider the Flyers are probably cutting ties to use a worse, more injury prone backup. There is the chance they signed Neuvy because they didn't want Mason exposed and will have a contract agreed to for post-expansion, but it feels like a long shot. Hakstol/Scoob just loves Neuvirth.

Even Read or Raffl getting picked would open up cap space, but even then I can't see them offering Mason more than two years, if they make any offer at all.

Kinda what I think as well.

I don't think it's impossible that Mason comes back, but I think it unlikely.

The only way I'd see him coming back is if he wants to sign a make-good deal. Flyers would get a bridge to the prospects and Mason would get an opportunity to rehab his value after a down season.

I just don't know why he'd come back here for that type of deal. The organization and coaching staff hasn't really ever fully embraced him as the starter, and the team in front of him is bad and likely going to break in a bunch of young Dmen next year.

Seems like Dallas would be the ideal place if he wanted a 1-year rehab type deal.

My guess would be that they sign another NHL goalie for 1 year and play the "young guys need to beat out the vets to get a chance to start" card.

With the new baby, not sure he would take a one year contract.

Depends on what teams offer I suppose.
