As I mentioned though, the rebuilding was in place a bit longer with those teams than it has been with Buffalo. Not that Buffalo has been good for what, 2-3 years prior to the 2 tank seasons, but they weren't complete bottom feeders like Chicago and Pittsburgh were (without me looking back for solid numbers).

And at least in Chicago's case, they hit on at least one deep draftee in that period who is a main core piece that Buffalo doesn't have like that in a top d-man.

I'm not gonna lie, I'm curious if the ankle is still an issue for him at all. I know that if the media were to ask he'd say it was fine even if there were still lingering issues.

But, if it is still nagging him a bit, it would be pretty crazy to see what he may be doing if it wasn't.

But I explained it above. I mean, my life experiences are mostly with working-class/poor as that's pretty much what I am, not gonna sugar-coat it.

It's not so much about learning how to read a contract as it is being thrust into life with no skills, college opportunity or life experience and being told to "FIND A JOERB".

According to our President Elect, there's 94 MILLION unemployed adult citizens in America. I did some math before he said this last week, and my number was more around 50 Million unemployed.... But even then that's ridiculous.

Add in about 10 million in all the branches of the ARMY and reserves and somewhere around 60 million jobs in about 10 different fields and manufacturing isn't even one of them, with less than 2 million manufacturing jobs at this point in America and you have a lot of people with no work to go around.

That's why so many uneducated/poor/trash people end up joining the service thinking it's their way up in life. But they simply don't have the know-how to see further than "I'm getting out of my dirt town and doing something with my life" 90% of whom end up back in their dirt town working in a factory. Nor do they have the education to make a career out of it, nor do they have the smarts to play the system.

There's a reason the poor stay poor and the rich get richer, that's how the system is set up.

But the Military offers a lot.. a lot of people don't take advantage that is on them. I was brought up in a well-off family but i worked my ass off and graduated early, had my parents sign off and joined on my 17th birthday (my best friend was killed 2 months into his first tour so i wanted nothing but to be a grunt) The military really made my life better. It was my first "job" the discipline, attention to detail etc. are skills that i would never have gotten anywhere else. I turned that into great jobs since the day i got out. I have no Schooling beyond high school, yet i am a manager at a fortune 500 company. Life is all about what you make out of it. I take 18 pills a day, so no one can use the excuse of PTSD and all that other crap. Most people that claim that stuff and talk about their service are the ones who never deployed or saw anything. The quiet ones, the ones that put their head down and keep it moving are the ones who saw their best friends killed, families destroyed and the true affect of war. I see no excuse why anyone can not succeed in this country. Sorry for rambling and getting off track. Back to sports please! HOOAH!

I don't get it.

But even if we were vehemently disagreeing, which I don't think we are, this is still stuff that people should and can talk about in order to better understand different perspectives and people's different experiences. I'm speaking from interactions with poor and working-class veterans, not personal experience. Family members, too. Most of them don't have a high opinion of the military and a lot of it stems from the way they were treated after their active duty.

Edit to your edit: I'm on the fence but more leaning toward military enlistment being mandatory for males in the US... Like a 6-18 month assignment for basic training to learn said discipline...

But you say you were well off to begin with, and I think that probably played more into your discipline and ethics because you most likely had those resources available to you in the form of proper parenting. Which a lot of people don't and they really can't function in society because of it. Neither parents nor school is giving them that discipline, so making a mandatory enlistment after graduation that teaches them skilled trades, work preparation, discipline and etc... Would be best for this country post 9/11 IMO.

He was lucky to make it out of there alive. He's never told me "I have PTSD" but he has mentioned that sometimes he has nightmares about things he saw there. That exactly how he put it to me. He very well could have said it was PTSD, but didn't.

My grandfather (who will be 98 in July) was in WWII. My dad said he has a ton of stories, but that it's best to not ask him about them, so I never really have. He's never talked about it on his own. So I can totally relate to what you're saying.

I think you'll also get a very different experience from those who've enlisted both in WWI and WWII and post 9/11 and those who were drafted into Vietnam and Korea. Especially since WWI and WWII were a completely different beast in terms of trench warfare in European countryside vs guerilla warfare in Southeast Asian jungle.

I've known people who've come out and told me they saw their friend's face get shot off right next to them and people who won't even talk about basic training, let alone deployment. Everyone will cope differently depending on what they see and who they are.
