the list of d-men in that top 60 has to be the best we've seen in quite some time. - Sabresfan-365
Huh? Nowhere near as solid as 2012 for D men. |

This was actually a pretty good blog, Nice work Michel.
this I ask tho, is spending extra money on scouting, and adding more directors and scouts a good investment when one of those guys is Kevin Pendergast? - Larsson_fan
ugh agreed almost rip'd hockey canada lol. But it seems like Murray does most of the heavy lifting drafting wise and so far so good. |

I initially started the idea for deadline day (since the site usually dies), but had a different site that day.
It's come in handy though for those of us who've used it where we've been keeping lots of off topic things there, just having fun chatting and not worrying about it clogging things up here. It's an "always on" sort of thing so for instance someone posted late one night but I picked up the convo the next day.
No real "purpose" behind it, just something extra. |

Still pretty happy with the Nylander draft. We do need D more than forwards, but if Kane were to walk, we are simply depleted on the left side. Nylander played amazing in the WJC's as well and usually falls in the top5 in most prospect rankings now.
Sergachev is talented, but seems to be pretty eratic. He reminds me of Subban when I watch him, his own players don't know when passes are coming or when he's going to rush. No rhyme or reason to it. He is very talented, so with proper coaching that could change, but I think Nylander is as much of a sure thing as you can get and plays a position we may very well need shortly too. - RhinoFan
I am not saying Nylander won't work out for Buffalo... Just that young blue liners are more valuable in terms of trade pieces and the organization's current needs. Therefore, I am hoping that if Buffalo picks after the Top 5 this year that they take Juuso Valimaki. I think Liljegren will likely go before then and Heiskanen is too small to draft that high IMO. Owen Tippett would be my choice if a forward after Top 3. |

I get the rationale, but I'm not sure that you draft for trade value. The organization needs defenders, but we are also looking at Moulson as our 2nd best LW so we need both. If Nylander is going to bring more to the team, we are so bad that BPA is the route to go for now. I'm still of the mind that Nylander will make more of an impact unless Serg can correct some of his erratic play.
I agree about Valimaki though, I'm praying. Got to watch him live, he is the real deal. |

Not going to take credit for it since it's just something I heard on a podcast, but the problem with Bylsma coming back next season and then getting canned if they're crap after X number of games is that the coaching pool will be empty.
If he was canned now, there are at least some candidates, or in the offseason (but more competition then) there will be some available...but how many good coaches will be available in November?? |

my mock draft pick for buffalo:
8. Buffalo Sabres--D, Mikhail Sergachev. Buffalo was ready to select Jacob Chychrun until sources revealed he hurt his shoulder giving Terry Pegula a high-five at a family cookout in Florida. You could feel the weight of the moment as Chychrun's double cheeseburger went flying into Kim Pegula's Strawberry Daquiri. The incident threw everyone off guard causing Murray's brain to cramp and he ends up doing the unthinkable by drafting the Russian defenseman who inexplicably dropped to them. There's no truth to the rumor that former head scout Kevin Devine had Murray in a headlock until the blue faced GM capitulated by shouting out Sergachev's name instead of "uncle" at the same gathering. - Michael Pachla
I remember reading that. Good stuff.
I wonder if they showed the intermission in the locker room. |
