I don't either, but I also think it's tough to walk from this current production.
I'd still trade him if a top 3 D man is available, because wingers are moved every single year and we will find another one. - sbroads24
As difficult as it would be to lose his production, I too would trade him this offseason for an impact defenseman.
A mix of the young guys and a bargain $1M or $2m signing could combined replace his production while the addition of the defenseman would have a greater impact on the quality of the team overall. |

I hope they don"t go after Shattenkirk. He is a younger version of Franson. Third pair power play specialist who is not defensively responsible. 7 mil a year is reserved for top pair, play in any situation, shut down defensman. I belive he was hovering around negative 17, while playing for the blues this year. Yikes! - Tinkleman11
OK let's ruin the guy's career lol he's more like Christian ehrhoff specialist |

Michael Pachla: Will Buffalo have room for Evander Kane and a d-man like Shattenkirk? - Michael Pachla
I pretty much did this a couple weeks ago,
But in comparison to how Chicago set up their "core" & filled in around them
I agree that we can keep Kane AND "fix" the defense
But instead of bringing in ONE guy like Shattenkirk,
Id rather get TWO guys who are solid top4 defensemen
That potentially puts Guhle-Bogosian on a 3rd pair,
Which should give us some really nice depth
And keeps us from rushing Guhle or putting too much on Bogo's plate
Hopefully GMTM can pull off a good trade or 2 this offseason |

That's the major question. We don't know.
It's not even are they a playoff team, it's are they a cup contender, which is what we suffered for - sbroads24
Coach upgrade is #1 need.

Sure, but it's no biggie if we miss out on him
A detailed looked at the player’s game comes from hockey writer Jeff Cox, who writes at SB Nation College Hockey: “He plays a heavy game and he is consistently strong on pucks… At the next level, he’s going to have to be a bottom six player, and all indications point to him being able to do just that. A lot of his goals have come off tip-ins, rebounds or looks in the slot where he’s found a seam in the defense and received a good pass. Very few of his plays are of the highlight reel variety.
“While he doesn’t have the hands or elite speed to be a top six player, he can be a bottom six forward that does a good job in his own zone taking away time and space, and winning puck battles along the wall. He can cycle well down low, be a puck hound in all three zones, and push possession while he’s out there. He can kill penalties and chip in offensively from time to time.” |

And yea i guess hes like franson except for the part where shattenkrik can actually skate...and pass...and i dont think he even saw that much powerplay time with the blues. - Sabresfan-365

Even if he doesn't work out,
we really need to add more young defensemen to the organization
I'm cool with signing him
6'0
195lbs
NHL Central Scouting’s David Gregory:
"He's always had a great sense of the whole game in front of him. He really manages the ice well all the time. You add to that his skating ability with and without the puck and you have a solid prospect. He's an excellent passer and can quarterback the power play. He has vision and puck skills and shoots it well. He can be physical and has the tools.”

Draft high twice, with a franchise defenseman already in place, and compete for a cup when they are 20-21 respectively? We are far behind it seems |

^^^this is where im at. Perfectly put. A 7m free agent longterm contract defenseman sounds like a terible idea to me. |
