they wont sign him till the summer because hed have to clear waivers to play this season coming over from europe. - Sabresfan-365
Didn't they fix those waiver rules after O'Reilly got signed to the offersheet by Calgary years ago?
I remember hearing that if the AVs didn't match, O'Reilly would've had to clear waivers before he joined Calgary bc he went to play in Europe or KHL...
I could be wrong,
But I had thought that weird loophole was fixed

its not so much a loophole... the old cba stated that players on an nhl teams reserve list or rfa's were exempt from that waiver rule. The problem with ROR was that exemption belonged to Colorado, not to calgary.
That was peak Feaster, like 10 times worse than any flack benning gets these days. Can't believe he managed to turn it around (kinda)

Yeah, I got ya
Just thought it had been changed
I don't see any reason why the Sabres should have to wait to sign a Euro
I could understand the NHL not allowing a late season signed player allowed to compete in the playoffs...
But as long as he gots under the Cap,
I don't see why blocking a team from signing the guy makes sense
Why make him clear waivers?
