I go by what his coach says and the number of healthy scratches. You don't the hate, I don't get the infatuation.
- Marwood

Subban was lost in the young starts tournament. There is a reason he didn't see any preseason games.

From the Utica games I have watched, I had hated his defensive play. I give him credit for being 140 pounds soaking wet and willing to go into the corners, but he is essentially a 4th forward on the ice with a decent shot. I can't get over his defensive lapses, they are just horrendous.
- Codes1087

Comes with the territory of his offensive play.
Based purely on his powerplay prowess, shot and skating, I think he has a heck of alot more to offer this team then the likes of Larsen or Biega or alternatively, Weber and Bart in the past.

Ya, I personally do not get the Subban hate.
Fact of that matter is, the vast majority of haters here have never seen the kid play for 60 minutes yet are totally willing to write off his entire career based on what? A pre-season viewing, comments from HF, his size/weight, blowhard posters here?

Simple fact is, we won't know if he's NHL caliber until he's given the opportunity to play in the NHL. Hard to believe eh.

- Whiskey-Tango

Oh you know why there is hate.

It's disgusting and there is no room on this site for it.

Thunda... get ready!

So, you are suggesting replacing AHL players with an AHL player.

Subban sucks!

Is he waiver exempt or not?

Barring injury, he will have played too many games to be exempt by seasons end

Benning gives green light to Willy to play kids more to see where they are at.
Keeps Virtanen and Subban in Minors lol
I don't think Subban is anywhere close to being ready for NHL action, but you would think that if they recognize the rest of the season is a bit of wash, and they want to evaluate, then bring them both up and give them a shot. If Subban sucks like we think he will, trade him now while his value is decent afterwards .

- Codes1087

I honestly don't get the J.Subban hate. I think he's already about as good as Hutton, who has been a garbage fire for about 80 out of 133 games now.

I do agree he has trade value is high, might as well package him and tanev for a nice return. I hear Colorado has d needs and young forwards for sale.

The coach has said repeatedly his defensive game is slowly rounding out and Green rotates his defense. Every single guy save for a few old career AHLer's have been routinely scratched.

Sure he's not perfect but offensively speaking, he's the most unique D prospect we got in the system. I can get why management has its reservations in the past, but for fans to simply blow him off is pretty odd considering he's improved every year, as opposed to some other prospects we got in the pipeline

I'm not saying he's the second coming, but at this point, there's really no harm in giving him a chance is there?

The sad thing is I don't believe Subban is better than Bartowski, Larsen etc. But yes, they all suck.

Yes, except there might actually be some upside with Subban.
The guy is pure money on the power-play, an area this team is lacking in spades.

Feelings? Can you name a situation where a team has papered a guy that has played 2 seasons on a teams top 6? It's a bit ridiculous that you are arguing this.
- CanuckDon

Call it (frank)ing conditioning or whatever. It's about development and if you want the best situation for your players then you put the eligible ones into playoff hockey. Same reason why teams lend guys to international tournaments.

Plus it keeps your kids disciplined during NHL down time.

If he's not good enough to be called up then he is not good enough to get called up. Simple.

Like you said, you don't get the hate and I don't get the love. As soon as Shinkurak
was traded Subban became the new poster boy for feelings.

Stecher? Im not sure he deserves it, but it would have been nice. 12 more NHL games and he is no longer waiver exempt

I wasnt totally following the comments but if youre referring to Hutton he isnt exempt. He played 75 games last year, threshold for his ELC signing age was 70 games

infatuation?

no one is claiming (at least not that i've read) that he's a sure fire nhl'er. at best, i've read him being a pp specialist. with the points he has put up, that doesn't seem to be a totally absurd view.

he's a prospect that is in his 2nd year of pro hockey. to say that he needs a chance to develop is not infatuation.

i feel the same way about all/most prospects.

I thought it was about Stecher (or possibly Hutton). Goldoblin is good for a while and was papered for AHL playoffs as you pointed out

offensive defensemen have never been more sought after than in todays game. I still think he sucks and we should trade him, but he is top 20 in points.
- Codes1087

I get what you are saying on Subban. You know Marwood doesn't talk hockey he lurks and mocks.

I don't know if they are sheltering Jorden from NHL time, keep value potential hypothetical, like they did somewhat with Shink. JB could be looking for deal this offseason or as throw in sweetener to a bigger one. Would be waste to use for Vegas fodder to protect exposed players. But well it's all in play as for options.
