One was playing on a team that was a complete mess and was losing on purpose and was sent back to Juniors for a few reasons not just that he couldn't hack it.
Not burning a year on his ELC
Not playing for a team that was losing on purpose
Send him back to juniors to get his body weight up
The other was playing on a team that just missed out on the playoffs and was starting to turn it around.
Age only seems to matter to those using it make their point...
This Sam debate is insane - Stripes77
I'm neither disagreeing with this, or knocking Sam for going back to juniors, you know that right? |

I didn't compare Barkov to Reinhart, you tried to.
http://www.foxsports.com/...thews-aaron-ekblad-030617
Barkov is #5 on this list. Ahead of Eichel. Risto is 24th. Draisaitl is listed, along with Pastrnak, Ehlers....
It isn't just a few bitter Sabre fans that haven't really noticed Super Sam - sbroads24
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Reinhart always talked about as being one of those guys that quietly goes about his business successfully but very much under the radar? He's not a flashy player by any means, but that doesn't mean he's not effective either. If that is in fact the case, it doesn't surprise me that he wouldn't end up on a list like that, as again, his style game is one that flies under the radar. |

My point in 2 days of talking about Reinhart is that he's 2 years into the league playing on a poopty team, yet he's being dragged through the mud for not making stellar leaps and bounds year-over-year.
So many on this site rip the d-men constantly for their ineptness at gaining and keeping possession, yet with "half" the on-ice talent so inept, suddenly it's "pick on the guy who plays well but isn't turning into that stud that I want him to be in his 2nd year on this basement team!"
My comparison to Barkov was due to the fact that the kid "didn't blow up" in his first 2 seasons against men, and then did after that (while then being paired with Jagr/Huberdeau, btw - they may help a bit) |

Who the hell is "dragging him through the mud"?
I literally posted a page back he was really good last night. I think he is a decent player (for the 1000th time)
But.....He has not taken a giant step forward like *some* (not all) of his peers.
That's all. I'll drop it for now |

I just don't understand why Sam is the target here.
It makes no sense.
Target guys like Bogo, Gorges, Ennis, Moulson
Not a kid in his 2nd full season who was never billed as the flashy guy just the guy that does the little things right (like being the guy in front of the net all the damn time) |

play maker, not a scorer
more like jumbo joe than carter if played on the dot
one reason why it's crazy to see more goals than assists last season, this year is more the norm
once you have 2 really good lines, his numbers will jump up, assuming the coach knows how to use him |

To change this subject, Rodrigues is looking great, Bailey still needs some work |

Because only one of these players mentioned was expected to be a core player. Its not bad to say you want more from a 2nd overall pick while still acknowledging he's been pretty good. Im not even sure where the disconnect is tbh. |

You get defensive constantly with the "But but but, I'm not saying he's bad!!", yet you rail on him for not being like another #2 pick and making a leap from a .50ppg player to the studly Barkov at .89ppg after 2 seasons.
THAT'S my point, on top of the fact that Reinhart is on a poop team that you and your tag team partners constantly bash (not wrongfully) the defense for on this roster as not being able to establish a game. |

They are both ideal bottom 6 players in many ways, already.
They are also the kind of players they need to continually develop and find to support the top guys. |

You and I both thought he looked good his prior stint with the team this year, but we are in the minority there. |

Carrier would probably fit well with those guys on a line |

The disconnect is that the TEAM is poop and now a single young player who people feel are not holding up to THEIR expectations is being called out. |

I think Rodrigues' play really puts a nail in the coffin of either Girgs or Larsson. With Murray's hop that Asplund makes the team next year, someone has to go. |

But see now you're spinning it. This isnt some 2nd rounder from europe that needs to be eased in. an entire year was tossed to draft him. A core spot is dedicated to him, the expectations will and should be high. |

I'd much prefer the newly drafted kids to put their time in the minors, barring exceptional play of course.
Buffalo already has enough kids that they need to see more of (Bailey, Baptiste, Fasching, Carrier, plus Nylander is a year ahead of Asplund) and not enough places for them.
Unless there are injuries, I'd love to see Rochester get to see some talent, since they missed out on 2 seasons of Buffalo high draft picks. |

i still think he's a little unsure of himself at times looks like he isnt caught up to pro speed. But i think the combination is there to be very effective. |

I think the distinction still exists but is less about role and more about skill set. |
