FFS, for how much you've twisted this whole thing after starting out with "Player X disappears" (a lie) and now wanting to heap a lot of the team's failures on a 2nd year player, it's painfully obvious that the discussion has no end as new turns will be used to knock the kid (I mean...I guess I need to start looking up the # of First Star awards he and others have this season apparently since he doesn't take over games).
- stashu

He does. Absolutely he does. He is nowhere near the threat with the puck guys like Eichel and Kane are, and he doesn't produce (yet) like O'Reilly.

He makes an excellent pass or nice play along the boards once or twice a game, and other than that he really doesn't do much else.

He's the 5th best forward on this team as of today, and this is coming from someone who likes Reinhart more than ROR or Evander Kane

It's fine to want more, but it's like the draft data I provided has ceased to exist.
- kingcong39

The data you provided has 0 to do with what I see from Reinhart today.

I believe so...it was 2014
- Michael Pachla

Never thought about that but that's a great point & falls into another issue. Other than McCabe not manys prospects have exceeded their expectations. I really thought one of Bailey baptite, fasching or carrier would've stolen a spot in the middle 6.

yeah...maybe...but I believe they were brought along at a slower pace and I also believe that the environment last season, as well as this season (unfortunately) hasn't been ideal for them to thrive in...they showed promise, but it just wasn't gonna happen this season

but bogo, franson, gorges and kulikov have been ok before they came to this town for bottom 4 d men
- homiedclown

Kulikov had one good series. Bogosian had a few good games on a team that no longer exists. Gorges was good when people thought shot blocking was some god given skill set.

They weren't okay in lesser roles, they were brought in here and given expanded roles. Not hard to see where it went wrong.

Love the title of this blog and it says it all... except the part where if there's no reason to play ROR and Risto 30 minutes a night, there's also no reason to bench Eichel.

IMO

Saw this post on the Pens board, so I'm pasting it in it's entirety here (credit to
taleisyreXIII for the post). It sums up exactly how Buffalo (and most teams honestly) should build around their star(s) in a way that I think he/she put so well (will bold those parts for emphasis)

The suggestion that sheary is a star at this point is false. While you cannot underestimate that he seems to play well with sid, let's not confuse this with "star player". I look at it this way. Sid is a lot like the Peyton Manning's and Tom Brady's of the football world. He does not need talent on the ice with him as much as he needs players that will do and be everything he requires. Sid thinks the whole ice sheet all the time. He maps it out and wants to place the pieces where he needs them. This is why he excels with players that fill a role and basically buy into what he wants. This isn't a slight on sid it's just he thinks the game above arguably anyone currently playing. Other star players struggle to mesh on a line with sid because they bring their own style and preconceived notions of how to play. Geno is a perfect example. Geno is the opposite of system...almost a "make it up as you go" kinda star. Geno is an incredible talent, one of the best in the world, but doesn't mesh at all with sid on a regular shift. Players like Duper, Kunitz and now rookies/youngsters like Guentzal and Sheary are more malleable for sid. The point is that let's not get carried away with sheary as a star, because it's no different than Kunitz as a star back when he had godly numbers. Let's enjoy it for what it is currently. We can revisit this when or if sheary can maintain this level of play over a huge sample size with and without sid.

100% agree and i know people hate to hear it but the injuries to the sabres roster is twice as bad for the farm roster. Yes our organizational depth isn't great but having falk, fedun, carrier, Bailey/Baptite and one of grant/COR/ Erod up all year was not part of the plan.

basically Roch has been down a top line of O and D all year

It would never happen but I would love to see shot blocking somehow outlawed.

Sure seems like that would help lift the offense.

Only allowed to block a shot with your face now...
Players might step aside.

Obstruction is the worst it's been since '03-'04. It's absolute garbage and it's making me not want to watch hockey. Why does this league want this holding garbage. I'm so f'ing sick of the defensemen "counterchecking" on zone entries. It's not a counter check, its interference. I can't watch a game without getting infuriated

For sure and as a result it makes all issues multiplied to the max..

Positives: We have a solid 1c and 2c and appears we have a #1 D and Goalie.

The hard part is mostly done.. imo we have to follow the most dangerous word in buffalo...Patience

It's been absolutely awful and dreadful to watch.

The pace of play is nowhere near what it could be, due to all the lead blocking, as I call it, that goes on every game.

2 of the 3 will be here 5 or more years after this year won't they? Patience has a limit, and IMO it's just going to be another year of questions followed by years of where they should be regulars in the playoffs each year.
