You don't like Virtanen skill set? Shot, size and speed. Pretty decent set of tools - CanuckDon
He has the tools, he needs to put his mind in sync with those skills now. |

Yeah... So in reality, the jury isn't out. That ceiling can be acquired outside the lottery. Can't waste lottery picks on anything other than top line forwards or top pairing dmen. Scouts have to identify skillsets with those ceilings. - DrChristianTroy
There are several busts in the top 10 in every draft. It's the nature of picking 17 year olds |

Top line forwards (the players you target in the lottery) should have all of that plus ELITE hockey IQ |

I've seen this posted a bunch of times, without ever seeing one shred of evidence towards it. - golfingsince
It was presented by Tony Gallagher on TSN1040 one day, long time ago. Tony Gallagher is a chump though, the guy complains about the Vancouver fan base crying when they lose, and crying when they win, and are never happy, yet he drives the hysteria bus with all his dramatic articles and posts. F that guy. He does everything he can stay relevant in Canucks media.

Too early to tell with JV. I saw a wicked goal he got the other day. He's a kid that still needs to learn, he has the tools. I'm looking forward to seeing him at camp. - VanHockeyGuy
Me too, I wouldnt be suprised if he works his bag off this summer and really pushes for a spot |

it's not like CSIS is on the case... its innuendo and speculation. Aquaman probably thought a local boy would be great for marketing... but that's just foolish, when there were other two way guys that JB likes on the board who were as good or better than Virtanen.
It's not like JB can come out and say, "Aquaman put me up to it"... - kaptaan
Let's not pretend JB doesn't like the meat and potatoes guys.
It's purely speculation, which i'll interpret as a great excuse absolving Benning of any responsibility for a poor selection. |

No, it's the nature of bad scouting. There are a LOT of bad scouts in the NHL who put too much emphasis on the wrong sh!t. |

Tony suspected.
His reasoning is the departing GM wanted Larking. |

Isn't HF a more appropriate place to complain about Virtanen? He is what he is.the past can't be changed |

One way to utilise JV more is dump it in & have him chase & bang.
His speed & size would punish D. |

1 top C won't make us a contender but would make us better.
2 scoring lines is needed & that is not there atm or anytime soon.

Is HB strictly for complaining about the Sedins, Edler, Gillis, AV, WD, etc?
He was a bad pick. It's the kind of pick that can set a rebuild back severely, especially if he doesn't ever become any kind of player in the NHL. |

Its all between JV's ears & his work ethic to be a pro.
On all accounts to date his IQ is in question.
If true then prolly a bust if a maturity curve then all will be ok.
Doesn't mean he is a top line F either. |

I'm super pissed off about the Patrick White pick. Let's debate. He appears to be a bad pick. I'd be very surprised if Virtanen isn't an NHL player. |
