Didn't Benning say in an interview that he he observed the process/ scouts in the Virtanen draft from a distance. He then made plenty of changes right after to the personnel and process. Were they positive changes? Well I guess we won't really know for a few years but I doubt it could be worse

I'm super pissed off about the Patrick White pick. Let's debate. He appears to be a bad pick. I'd be very surprised if Virtanen isn't an NHL player.

Yup White was a real head scratcher waste of a pick.
The Bourdon tragedy was a big set back for our D corp.

Is HB strictly for complaining about the Sedins, Edler, Gillis, AV, WD, etc?

He was a bad pick. It's the kind of pick that can set a rebuild back severely, especially if he doesn't ever become any kind of player in the NHL.

it's not like CSIS is on the case... its innuendo and speculation. Aquaman probably thought a local boy would be great for marketing... but that's just foolish, when there were other two way guys that JB likes on the board who were as good or better than Virtanen.

It's not like JB can come out and say, "Aquaman put me up to it"...

Despite his draft position, he has size and speed to be an NHLer, worst case he will be an NHL 4th liner. We arent talking a top-6 or bust type of player with JV

We drafted Virtanen 6th overall recently, you think that's not worth talking about? We aren't talking about a pick made two administrations ago late in the first round.

I'd say a very good 3rd liner if he gets it together.
Our other wingers & prospects if pan out push him into that role if he doesn't push for the 2nd line on merit.

Gillis said similar things though, I think Benning's main change has been Weisbrod/Judd Brackett. Brackett is US based so I assume he had a say in Boeser/Demko/Gaudette/Lockwood so let's hope they go American heavy.

But you really need to hit on top 6 picks, especially in string drafts because a lot of other teams are getting future core players so keeping pace is crucial

Ultimately Benning made the pick, so its hard for him to avoid criticism, but I find it difficult to blame him on the JV selection (and not be suspicious of Aquillini interference).

I say this because a lot of the younger players he has acquire or drafted, he always mentions how good their shot and speed is. Lately there have been more comments on highly skilled, or hockey IQ. The only time he has ever mentioned meat and potatoes is at the JV draft. Even when he traded for Gudbranson he didnt use the same phrase. I think the more we see him shape this team, the better sense of what he wants and none seem similar to JV to me
