It was a (frank)ing joke he is no more of a bust than Virtanen
- CanuckDon

I know you were joking, but I've seen other fans write him off as a bust and yet preach patience with JV

We'll see. He has 1 draft pick playing in the NHL at this point.

Is Forsling back in the minors?

Weird how it's fine to rip ex-Canucks around here like calling McCann a bust but suggesting JV's absolute best case is a 3rd liner is blasphemy.
- Nucker101

Same thing gets played the other way on caparisons when traded for players come in... and a common type of argument by many including you as well. Granlund has no ceiling left, Sbisa is too old to improve..., Beartchi is a bust...

I'm not sure I've heard more than one or two say McCann is a bust and that was months ago. I spend a lot more time here than you. Replace Mccann with Shinkarik, and you'd be accurate.

Ultimately Benning made the pick, so its hard for him to avoid criticism, but I find it difficult to blame him on the JV selection (and not be suspicious of Aquillini interference).

I say this because a lot of the younger players he has acquire or drafted, he always mentions how good their shot and speed is. Lately there have been more comments on highly skilled, or hockey IQ. The only time he has ever mentioned meat and potatoes is at the JV draft. Even when he traded for Gudbranson he didnt use the same phrase. I think the more we see him shape this team, the better sense of what he wants and none seem similar to JV to me

- WhiteLie

JB added a pile of size to this team initially, so i personally don't buy it.

I hear a rumour that Tryamkin was an Aquilini pick because if he didn't pan out as a hockey player he had other skills that interested the owner.

People preach patience because he is our asset. Clearly he is tracking terribly but he should still be a useful player one day

I'm not, we traded him for Erhoff.

We drafted Virtanen 6th overall recently, you think that's not worth talking about? We aren't talking about a pick made two administrations ago late in the first round.

I forgot, can't criticize Benning here.

- golfingsince

Wait, we did not get Erhoff because we had Patrick White. We got Erhoff because they were shedding cap space and didn't want to pay the player coming back.

I think it's ok to criticize Benning here. It's the spin that draws attention.

Yup, I did say guys like Granlund are usually traded because they don't have realistic top 6 upside. I'm still not convinced he's anything more than a 3rd liner. You can 100% call me out when he is an established top 6'er. My argument there was that id rather have the more volatile asset with a lower floor and higher ceiling.

I liked the Sven trade from day one

Sbisa "improved" from looking like an AHL'er to be a passable bottom pairing dman. Plus he's been playing a lot with Tanev who makes everyone look better. My arguments were with people who said he still had top 4 upside which is still laughable.

Vey, Dorsett, Bonino, Sbisa, Vrbata were his first string of moves, none scream size to me. (Sbisa is tall but wasnt very physical)

Of all his acquisitions to date, I would say Gudbranson, drafting Mackenzie Stewart and JV are the only ones I can see resembling that (EDIT: and Tryamkin)

Yeah, that wasn't the point. The point was although he was a poopty pick he was selected 25th overall 2 administrations ago, not 6th overall by the current one.

I'm just talking about the type of argument and how common it is..."you included"... both ways. Somehow you thought it was a post about you. I missed you, but not that much.

I'm constantly baffled by this whole "meat and Potatoes" narrative. If anything, JB is loading up on small skilled guys and it's pissing me off

I'd feel the exact same way about all those moves if Gillis made them so not really

JV isn't a big guy...he is probably pretty close to league average these days. I've met him a few times as well as Bo. Bo is a big guy and JV isn't

He trade for Sbisa and Pedan, drafted JV, Tree, Stewart all within the first 5 months on the job.

I'd say that's adding size originally.

We had the smallest and softest roster in professional sports. It was probably necessary?

Bo is jacked and a tank. JV is soft and fat. I'm JV's size minus the fat and Bo is a lot wider than me
