We're sitting pretty... That's why I don't want this to be the year we win the lottery. Save that luck for next year. We aren't the Oilers, we can't win it every year. - DrChristianTroy

The video doesnt really match the list. Has Vancouver taking Rasmussen in his mock draft at 8th but listed him 16th on his draft board - WhiteLie
Makes sense, With the JV pick he probably see's us taking ras early if a, clearly, better center isn't available.
By that logic he probably see's us ranking the centers

If I were to wager a guess.
Reading up on Necas, I can see how he is getting so highly ranked. he plays in a pretty good league and put up decent numbers for a kid his age. |

I didn't think much of him until he said the Canucks shouldn't pick Virtanen at 6th overall, turns out he was right #respect - LeftCoaster
I respect him for not following group think(I literally put zero stock into rankings that are safe and and hard to criticize).
He was also high on Boeser from day one. He's had some horrible misses in the past though. I remember he was convinced that Fucale was a future franchise goalie. |

Ultimately Benning made the pick, so its hard for him to avoid criticism, but I find it difficult to blame him on the JV selection (and not be suspicious of Aquillini interference).
I say this because a lot of the younger players he has acquire or drafted, he always mentions how good their shot and speed is. Lately there have been more comments on highly skilled, or hockey IQ. The only time he has ever mentioned meat and potatoes is at the JV draft. Even when he traded for Gudbranson he didnt use the same phrase. I think the more we see him shape this team, the better sense of what he wants and none seem similar to JV to me - WhiteLie
Benning made the right choice with JV. It is not Bennings fault JV turned into a piss tank party guy. I remember when JV made that hit against McDavid in the preseason he was the talk of the town.
Canucks are a cream puff team and JV in jr hit scored and had speed. He turned into the stay puff marshmello man .
JV will be here at the start of next year and hopefully he has learnt what it takes to be a pro. Give the dude a chance before you cast him off to pee wee failure hockey.
You guys can criticize Benning all you want . It can go either way for him this year . He is sitting on a picked fence with a spoke up his ass and one bad move it could be over.

Yeah, if he was in the CHL and had a North American passport, he'd get more hype. |

It wasn't the right pick, you can't draft based on need. The NHL draft is difficult enough to evaluate to begin with, why limit yourself by only targeting specific positions/styles and make it even harder?
I'd rather be overloaded with quality young skilled wingers and then trade one of them if need be to fill a position of weakness. Not like teams wouldn't be lining up for a Ehlers/Nylander/Tkachuk.

Not big on Viliardi, very good prospect but he's ranked higher than I'd have him. I know people like to compare him to Draisaitl, but I think he's a tier below that. |

Yeah thats what I found strange is that he had on his list:
Patrick
Nico,
Necas,
Vilardi,
Mittelstadt
Glass
Poehling
Petterson
Andersson
Rasmussen
Then mock drafted out Patrick, Nico, Vilardi and Pettersson before the VAN pick |

No kidding.
But what if they're not as a good and have a lower chance of becoming top 6F/top 4 D? No thanks.
There's a reason why the big powerforward or center/dman is ranked in the same tier as as the skilled wingers. If he was just as good, he'd be ranked higher because people always prefer size and/or premium positions. |

Early in the season i had Vilardi top 3.
Mittelstadt has passed him & Glass is making a strong push also.
Necas is real interesting pick for someone.
I'd like to see us blow it up more & get another 1st.
Depending on who is traded & where that pick ends up i like Petterson Foote.
If any of our prospects eg Winger is moved then Tippett looks very good.
Is JB motivated to deal or package up players for something big? |
