Weise and Manning can be upset about what the press writes all they want, but they should save their ire for the opposition. The Flyers played against a team missing 5 regular NHL defenseman, and were only able to generate 30 shot attempts, not shots on net, but shot attempts. If that is playing with heart, then this team really stinks. |

I hate Carchidi. He has been trying to start something for a couple weeks now posting inflammatory things to get the team riled up. He point blank asked Giroux if they quit on the season a few games ago. If the universe has a sense of irony, Carchidi would have a clogged artery. - Mononoke
I don't even read the beats. If I want to suffer, I'll just backread all of MJL's posts instead.

Like I stated before, "Top 4 defenseman" is a meaningless term. AMac is playing and has played top four minutes since 09-10, this is true. However, each and every one of those teams was a bad to mediocre team. Counting this season, in those 8 years, his team only reached the playoffs 3 times and NEVER WON A (frank)ING ROUND.
Lets try this on for size, if AMac spent the last 8 years playing for Chicago, would he have still been getting top 4 minutes? Yeah, didn't think so.
The goal is to able to compete for a Cup. On a LEGIT CONTENDER, Andew MacDonald is a 3rd pair Dman who should be making no more than 2.5 million per season. Also, if he was a legit top 4 defenseman for any team in the NHL (NOT), someone would have grabbed him off of waivers. 5 million per is not out of line for a guy who can play top 4 minutes for a contender and since at least a few of the other 29 teams weren't right up against the cap, I just can't understand how he possibly went unclaimed. Wait, now I remember, it's because he's NOT THAT GOOD!!
OK, I'm through. Going to do something more productive right now, like pounding sand. - BiggE
Top 4 defenseman is not a meaningless term. Whether MacDonald should be, or would be a top 4 defenseman on a top team, is a different discussion.

You're using TOI as the basis for your argument, but the coaches have no bearing? Hilarious.
He is averaging 20 minutes a night for a team that is 7 points (potentially 9 points) out of a playoff spot. You must be so proud. - JFlyers00
Again, you completely misrepresented what I said. So I'll repeat it. That those coaches are no longer in the NHL has no bearing on what MacDonald is as a player. I think you're having reading comprehension issues.
Every player on the team is playing whatever minutes they are playing for a team that is 7 points out of a playoff spot. |

I think Hak and the core are safe for one more year. Just my vibe. He adds Lindblom and maybe 1-2 of the rookie d-men.
Now lets say the core has a repeat season next year. Then its decision time. Personally, I'd blow it up now but thats just me. - flyer_nutter
It probably has to be torn down. By the time this team is a legit contender Giroux will be using a walker. |

Can we talk about Steven Mason for a second?
What is going on between this organization and Mason that us fans don't know about? It truly is baffling to me that he does not seem to be in the future plans of this team, but Neuvirth is?
He was pretty honest in his post-game presser last night. Just add it to the amount of evidence that suggests there is some friction between Mason and this team/organization. |

My guess is he asked for too much term and money. Or he has issues with the goalie coaches

Once we're done discussing how useful the term "top 4 defenseman" is, we can discuss how useful describing the Flyers as a ".500 team" is.

Doesn't seem baffling to me. We don't know how many years and how much money Mason wants, and we don't know what price Hextall would be OK bringing him back at.
If Mase was a .920 goalie this year like he was his first three years as starter, it would be baffling. |

The only way they have a chance not to be in this position is to make moves, and one of those moves must be a core player. If not, it will be another hot mess.

I wish I knew, but there has to be something going on. I prefer Mason, and I don't trust Neuvirth as a starter. |

You know... I really may get my wish. They go with Stolarz/Lyon and Neuvirth, thats basically tanking.
He's a sly one Hextall. - flyer_nutter
How's next years draft class looking
If we have two rookie goalies then we might as well trade a core guy or two to further the tank. |

I'm young and have ample free time. It also helps that I don't actually watch hockey games and all my opinions are copy and pasted, so I don't waste time on that. I surprisingly watch less TV shows than you think year round. I'm just very enthusiastic and don't shut the (frank) up about those I watch!
The new Zelda game looks amazing, and it's really calling me. But I don't have a Nintendo Switch or WiiU. And I'm trying to beat the Witcher 2 and then 3 right now, so that's my gaming time. Can only play so many massive open world games. At least Mass Effect: Andromeda is supposed to be really bad, so I don't have to play that now, even though I loved the original trilogy. |

They have the cap space to improve without moving any core player.
Lots of teams around the league go from missing the playoffs to being a contender in a year or two. The Sharks and Blue Jackets stand out. |

The Switch is worth buying just for Zelda.
Haven't tried Andromeda yet but I'm a big fan of the Mass Effect series.

On the subject of Mason talking and criticizing the team, he is always there in front of the media giving a harsh but fair assessment of himself and the team. He rarely is a guy who gives cookie cutter answers, and he's not afraid to turn the spotlight on himself when he's been bad. After every game, he's always ready to be interviewed. |
