I know it's only been 10 games, but Filppula has been awful. He's gotten to play with the Flyers two best even strength forwards and still can't generate chances and they've gotten crushed in possession. Wish the Flyers didn't commit to protecting him this offseason.

He was just a stop gap and get coots to where he should be, a 3c. I think they believe they will have a center in the minors ready in two years to take that spot from filp when the time comes. I don't see any other reason. Im still at my time line for when they should be a contender and that's in the 2018-2019 season.

Voracek has got the skate the puck down the boards and behind the net maneuver down pat. He needs to be much better than he has been.
- MJL

Yeah.

That line as a whole has seemed to not be good recently.

Also is it me or do the Flyers struggle receiving passes? I feel like other teams can take passes in stride and with speed but most of the Flyers struggle with receiving a pass cleanly.

Still believe Couturier can be the 2nd line center. Look what happens when he plays with wings. Most times his line usually plays solid games. Right now him and Schenn have been solid together. Just like when couturier centered Voracek and Konecny.

You should be...I only watched the 3rd period and it wasn't enjoyable. Turned the game off when Winnipeg made it 3-1. I knew they weren't going to be great this season, but they're not even fun to watch. Sad time to be a Philly sports fan

He's been worse than useless so far. If he keeps playing like this, you might as well just put Schenn back at C or Cousins at C.

Couturier being slotted as a "3C" so he can match top lines while dragging subpar linamtes doesn't help the team unless Filppula is able to produce. Right now, he's hemorrhaging goals and providing little offense despite playing with Konecny and Voracek.

Love combined +/-. It is the best representation there is for such a great statistic

best players have to be best players. They are not, therefore this team is not performing . If they were all + players their record would be much better

Exactly.

Not enough from them at 5v5. Yes Simmonds and Schenn might be tops in PP goals and that is good but there needs to be more at even strength. Also Giroux was barely a player for most of the season until recently where he has looked a little better.

Sure! Lets exploit the growing market for underperforming players making over 8 million a year and pawn one of our guys off on some unsuspecting schlub in another town!

Ask the Leafs how they are doing now after trading Dion who was considered
almost impossible to move. A change of scenery can benefit players.

Your right.

You have to find the right deal and be aware mindful your not going to get a super sexy package. I think what people think is Giroux is still a high end player and should bring back a big package.

Toronto moved: Phaneuf, Matt Frattin, Casey Bailey, Ryan Rupert and defense prospect Cody Donaghey

And received: Jared Cowen, forwards Colin Greening, Milan Michalek and Tobias Lindberg as well as Ottawa’s second-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft.

they would be doing just as bad if they weren't set up from all of the other moves/picks that were made

Flyers could trade Giroux for a bag of nothing and a 2nd round pick if they too had Marner and Nylander ready for the NHL

The Leafs also had a genuine cap crunch due to their unmovable, dead money deals of Horton, Lupul and Robidas. The Flyers will have plenty of cap space for the next two seasons so there's no incentive for Hextall to trade anyone for a discount.

I think that isn't surprising. Still in the retooling/rebuild. We have a lot of cap space opening up with a ton of blue chip prospects ready to start showing up next year along with provy and konecky already here.

Quibbling about whether Couturier and/or Fip are 2nd or 3rd line centers is pointless. The problem is the lack of a true 1C, Giroux is a 2nd line center at this point.

This is why I'd be willing to trade Simmonds. I'd have no problem starting an offer to Edmonton for Draisatl with Simmonds and their choice of Ghost or Sanheim, and, if it's what I'd need to close the deal, I'd be willing to add in this year's 1st as well. There is no one that the Flyers are going to get at 9-11 that will likely be as good a player as Draisatl.

Having a legit #1C makes all of the lines better going into next season, and Fip can be moved to wing to make it work.

Konecny-Draisatl-Schenn
Lindblom-Giroux-Voracek
Fip-Coots-Read, Raffl or Weise
