Not sure I would move Simmonds as some are suggesting, but it's pretty obvious that this core group has issues that regardless of the "growing through the draft"" approach needs to be addressed. patience is one thing, this piss poor product is another.....Take away that 10 game winning streak, the Flyers are a bottom 3 team in the entire league....and Hextall still thinks they haven't under achieved??? WTF |

Your right.
You have to find the right deal and be aware mindful your not going to get a super sexy package. I think what people think is Giroux is still a high end player and should bring back a big package.
Toronto moved: Phaneuf, Matt Frattin, Casey Bailey, Ryan Rupert and defense prospect Cody Donaghey
And received: Jared Cowen, forwards Colin Greening, Milan Michalek and Tobias Lindberg as well as Ottawa’s second-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft. - J35Bacher
Sign me up for that return! Jared Cowen!! |

Quibbling about whether Couturier and/or Fip are 2nd or 3rd line centers is pointless. The problem is the lack of a true 1C, Giroux is a 2nd line center at this point.
This is why I'd be willing to trade Simmonds. I'd have no problem starting an offer to Edmonton for Draisatl with Simmonds and their choice of Ghost or Sanheim, and, if it's what I'd need to close the deal, I'd be willing to add in this year's 1st as well. There is no one that the Flyers are going to get at 9-11 that will likely be as good a player as Draisatl.
Having a legit #1C makes all of the lines better going into next season, and Fip can be moved to wing to make it work.

I don't think EDM moves him for anything we have....they have guys like Maroon and Lucic that play a similar game to Simmonds.

Would it be possible / less expensive to package the #8-12 pick with a group of A prospects and depth players to move up this year to get Nico Hischier? We could keep Wayne and build a stronger lineup with a likely 1 / 2 center over the next 2 years?

Just wanted to see if it makes sense but would you offer to Vegas a 2nd round pick or a player like laughton as incentive for them to take MacDonald?
Is it not worth it?
Maybe then you resign Del Zotto or explore trying to sign Kulikov as a guy who might be able to rebound. |

The Leafs also had a genuine cap crunch due to their unmovable, dead money deals of Horton, Lupul and Robidas. The Flyers will have plenty of cap space for the next two seasons so there's no incentive for Hextall to trade anyone for a discount. - Feanor
well they were maxing out the return on deals by taking on money and contracts...they had LTIR room if im not mistaken too (kinda depends what point in time you're talking about) |

Perhaps, perhaps not, they did have him playing on the wing at one point so who knows. Either way, my point I think is still valid. The problem isn't figuring out who is the 2C, the problem is not having a 1C.

Vorecek is a total mess defensively and the other guy is a pup..... it was more of a rhetorical comment. I don't mind Filpula, I think he is what he is....a skilled guy who can be a decent piece and chip in at both ends of the ice.....Id rather have him then all but about 4 or 5 other guys up front.

There is a pretty big drop off after the top 2 according to most scouts so even if they end up with the 8th pick, it will likely be pretty pricey. That being said, I'd certainly make an offer. It would probably take something like the 8th pick, Sanheim and Rubtsov to have any chance of getting a deal done.

Yeah.
That line as a whole has seemed to not be good recently.
Also is it me or do the Flyers struggle receiving passes? I feel like other teams can take passes in stride and with speed but most of the Flyers struggle with receiving a pass cleanly. - J35Bacher
There has been many games where the Flyers passing has not been sharp.

You're overrating cap space on a team that is going nowhere the next couple years. If they were a legit contender, then it might make sense. |

your 100% correct on that. Hopefully Giroux has move left in the tank and can bounce back, but I agree his days of carrying this team are probably a thing of the past.

THIS!!
If we had done this before the start of the season there is a very real chance we could have won the Super Bowl. - jak521
seriously tho I don't get what people think this will accomplish and why its even a good idea. BTW I actually think Giroux is starting to look more like Giroux over the last 10 games or so. I'm really hoping this is a good sign for next year. I do want to see an injection of young players next year. 2 of Morin, Sanheim and Hagg to start and all 3 by the end of the season. Kids like Leier, Laughton and Lindblom in the lineup. maybe some youth in the lineup will kick start them a bit. |

I think Draisatl is almost untouchable but was it you or jmachette who mentioned Trochek?
I think Simmonds would work well in Florida with all the youth they have and he could be a nice fit with that roster.
Trochek might not be a true number 1 center but he is close. |

I know it's only been 10 games, but Filppula has been awful. He's gotten to play with the Flyers two best even strength forwards and still can't generate chances and they've gotten crushed in possession. Wish the Flyers didn't commit to protecting him this offseason. - PhillySportsGuy
he looked really good the first 2 games then not so much since but since he has been here Coots has looked good so on that alone I am good with the trade. I think I would put Jake back with Giroux and simmonds with Filppula |
