It's not surprising. You see it in football all the time. Great college coach, but can't succeed in the NFL. Whether hockey or football, the difference between coaching college kids and coaching adult professionals in the best league in the world is enormous.

The deck of cards hexy gave him has a lot of holes. Watching nick Schultz is painful. Read has scored now 4 goals in the last 55 games as examples. Not great options, but as mentioned several times his usage is odd with the roster. If both assistants need to be replaced, what good reason is to save the head coach. I'm not sure other then pride from the guy who hired him

I think assistants could be out before Hakstol. He did try to bring his own guy before he got the ND job from Hakstol.

I could see Lappierre and possibly Mullen gone. Both guys who are tied to special teams.

So with that being the case, if Vegas were to get somewhere in the top 3 would you move Simmonds for it? I think Simmonds could be a player Vegas could market and put as the captain and build with.

At 3 you get a pick of Patrick, Hischier or Vilardi(who I would take).

I haven't studied the draft well enough to know. During most seasons, that would be fair value though.

Hagg and O'Neill
- nastyflyergirl

I think the current depth chart for call ups is something like:

Sanheim/Morin/Hagg - almost back from a leg injury
Brennan
O'Neill - out for weeks with a wrist injury
Alt
Willcox/Friedman
Lamarche
Pettersson

I think it would be incredibly short sighting for Vegas to use their first ever draft pick on Wayne Simmonds

edit: inb4 someone comments about them "drafting" players in expansion

I think Vilardi could be better then both the top 2 who are always mentioned.

I am just trying to use what people say in needing to draft a future center. Might be the perfect storm where Vegas needs a star to sell and build around and Simmonds is a guy I think that could work with.

I know it's only been 10 games, but Filppula has been awful. He's gotten to play with the Flyers two best even strength forwards and still can't generate chances and they've gotten crushed in possession. Wish the Flyers didn't commit to protecting him this offseason.
- PhillySportsGuy

Read can play his role and is much better offensively. I'd rather the Flyers protect Read. Lower cap hit for next season and a better overall player.

I understand and I think it is easier for Mason to say it now because nothing has changed my mind he won't be back next year.
- ravishingone

Well even when he is not back the last thing what was worrying this year was goal-tending.More concerning are the - stats of the top-players Giroux in particular
He is simple no 1C and 8 million player anymore.
And in 5on5 he was almost invisible whole season
The only good thing left is the top face-off man and a excellent PP player

We'll see. I think Vegas trading that pick for a player is unlikely though

Coming from someone with ties to the Vegas organization...this sounds a lot like a bait and switch IMFO

•On second-year coach Dave Hakstol’s performance this season: “Dave’s done a good job. I have no issue with the job he’s done. Are we having a great year? No. But it’s not over. We’ll sit down at the end of the year and we’ll evaluate our personnel and free agents and restricted free agents and make decisions at an appropriate time.

Hexy on Monday

I expect him to get at least one more year based on that type of support.

When Berube was almost gone, Hextall was talking about other GMs telling him they were surprised the Flyers weren't a playoff team.

I don't know.

They will be getting some solid players in the expansion draft. Would you make a package that lets them still pick in the 1st round?

To Vegas: Simmonds, 2017 1st rounder and promise to take MacDonald in ED
To Philly: 1st round pick(assuming they are top 3)

Vegas is going to take Weise. They know Weise is a good player in a bad situation. House always wins baby

Vegas will not take Weise. They are looking to come out of the gates guns a blazing. If Flyers protect Filppula then they will take Read, and vice versa

You don't have to tank to get beat in Minnesota, Columbus, and Pittsburgh.

What happens when Las Vegas doesn't take Nuevirth. Who is the starting goaltender next year?

Only way I could see something happening with that pick is if they were to get screwed in the lottery. Even still...I'd put the odds around the same as the Flyers winning this years cup

They will be getting some decent players, they wont be getting 18 year old players

Probably Neuvirth with Stolarz backing up, with all the hopes Stolie explodes onto the scene.

It's looking more and more like Lyon/Stolarz will be on the Phantoms again next season. Madsen goes back for his senior year at Harvard, Sandstrom plays another season in Sweden, Hart plays his second post draft year in Junior.
