Us picking high in the 1st its need then BPA there after
- Nighthawk

I'm never a fan of drafting for need. Needs change & you don't want to pass up/miss out on a player you have ranked higher in order to fill a hole that might not need filling when the player's ready to contribute. Stockpile BPAs and manage assets when necessary.

Most people here don't like it but I do

Interesting they got Canucks drafting D in every round except 7th where they take a C. Plus no CBJ second. That's just odd don't you think?

Made top 3 in OHL Coach's Poll under the categories: most improved, hardest worker, and most dangerous in goal area. All 3 of those are boxes you want to tick when considering an 18yr old power forward.

Going along with say Mittelstadt & Gadjovich then I'd also want a Tanev trade as well for a 1st+ if in the 10-15 range & go BPA on D. That said a good F could be there & we go hvy on F to start the draft. Much depends on the available D at that point.

Tippett i can see as a 1st line winger.
Patrick, Mittelstadt 1 C's maybe Necas also.
Vilardi, Glass, Pettersen 2 C's
Makar a PP QB
Top 2-3 D Liljgren Foote
Top 4 D Makar, Hague, Valimaki & possibly a handful of others

- Nighthawk

Hischier could be a 1c as well.

I think where we pick, a Center will fit both BPA and need.

Liljgren or Makar both could be BPA at 6 or 7th pick, which is where were likeliest to pick .I'd be happy with both. I'm pretty high on Makar, very high-end offensive d-man.

Stetcher is also offensive minded small dman who has shown he can produce in the NHL. if it was Lil or makar I go Lil. You don't take PP Qb specialists in top 10 imo. 5'10" screems PP QB type with limited defensive ability. I don't watch him much, but this tends to be how it goes in the NHL.

Stecher doesn't have the skating/agility/shot that this kid has. It's apples and oranges.http://thehockeywriters.c...raft-prospect-cale-makar/

I don't subscribe to the idea that you must draft a position you haven't drafted yet... Take the BPA. I like Gadjovich in the 2nd because he works hard & provides a ton of net presence.
- DrChristianTroy

Depends where in the 2nd. I like Mason Shaw in the late 2nd. Also like Thomas early in the 2nd.

I prefer Makar to Liljegren, but I wouldn't take either over the centermen that'll likely be available when we pick in the 1st. I'm honestly having trouble keeping any Dmen in my top 10, which is pretty unusual.

Most people that get paid to watch hockey have both in the top-10, I'll take their word for it. Also, if JB thinks either is the BPA I'll take his word for it too. I was just saying, I wouldnt be surprised if it wasn't a center if it's outside of the top 4-5. Hopefully we are picking there and we get a great center prospect. I ran the lottery simulator a few times today and we've got a very good shot at a top-3 pick

I know foote isn't as highly ranked...but boy he's good. I watched Webber play for the rockets, Myers, berrie, and this guy is good. Maybe not Webber good but close. He's mean too.

It seems like he is a player that could drop. I wouldn't take him top 10, but would move up to get him. College scares off many GM's, and there are still some GMs that don't seem to like to draft out of AJHL in 1st round. High risk, high reward type. We need closer to a sure thing. With the centers available where we are picking, we are better going for that position.

His stock is rising, not dropping. I'm definitely thinking this is a 6/7 pick potential, not if we end up lower. Unless something happens, he's very likely to go top-10. I agree the competition in the AJHL is a flag, but all signs point towards him ending up a top-10 pick currently.

Where we are likely picking, i'd still think BPA is a center which also files a need.
