So I was reading this article and I realized resting players isn't a thing at all in the NHL, but say you're the hawks, doesn't it make sense to rest gaborik maybe 5-10 games a year? Maybe they make up injuries and do it anyway.

Exactly, because you have nothing to say to defend Risto's BS hit.
The fact that you're trying to play the "because it's the Sabres" card is pretty pathetic, in fact, baseless.
Sure glad Risto won't be around for Saturday though! - As_I_See_It
I can absolutely defend the hit, considering the fines/ smaller suspensions that have resulted from similar hits. Check out the Brandon Manning/ Guentzel hit above and explain to me how what Risto did was worse. Manning lined him up got his arms up and the principle point of contact was the head |

Right because driving a guy face first into the boards isn't a dirty hit...
Risto tried to Kronwall a guy it's his own fault had he been hitting him straight on it wouldn't have happened, but a guy going head first into the boards, or throwing an elbow at someones head only gets 2 there is no way you can justify giving 3 to Risto when he doesn't have a history. - Stripes77
Did you even see the play?
Polak pursued Bjorkstrand from behind the net to the half-boards and only caught him because BJORKSTRAND TURNED TOWARD THE BOARDS. Bjorkstrand KNEW Polak was there the entire and made a poor decision to place himself in that position.
Meanwhile, you're making it sound like Polak took 15 strides to hit Bjorkstrand in the numbers.
Again, considering what Polak got for his incident, Risto is (frank)ing lucky he got three! |

This is a pointless argument, the real issue is the lack of consistency and the preferential treatment to star players as well as teams with a pull in the league offices. |

There's no defending Risto's hit. Sorry.
It was dirty, dangerous and unnecessary, and now some kid's season might be over because of it. It's (frank)ing garbage and precisely the type of hit the game doesn't need.
I'm pretty damn sure that you'd be singing a different tune if Eichel was on the receving end of a hit like that. |

whats so bad about that? the league should be treating star players better. Is this not the same board that filled 10 pages complaining how jack doesnt get star calls?
At some point in his career eichel will do something that lands him in trouble but only ends up with a slap on the wrist and some other fan base loses its poop. |

I see the NHL put out a press release on the 3 game Risto suspension. Did they send out the Crosby spear on ROR's gonads suspension press release at the same time? |

He did take about 15 strides while following him the whole way, he was cutting him off so regardless Bjorkstrand was running out of real-estate.
I also watched the NHL video stating Bjorkstrand didn't make any sudden movement...
Take off the Leaf glasses for one second and explain to me how a forearm to the back of the neck driving a guy face first in the boards is worth less games...
Face it there are teams in this league that get less of a punishment based on who they are. |

Pfft Girgensons took out Eichel before the season started and he didn't even get fined |

No, no it shouldn't
Not when it comes to supplemental discipline.
They will suspend Crosby for skipping the All-Star game but they won't do anything about his cup check or the rest of his antics.
They should be calling more penalties that negate scoring chances and generally speaking better players are going to create those. |

If the puck got there at the time of the hit, it's a hit of the year.
It was unfortunate that the puck was deflected. He timed the hit perfectly for the puck hitting his stick. |

I'm not sure good players more readily getting away with dirty plays is the best thing for the league |

Risto 3 games is another reason why the NHL is joke, Polak gets 2 games and is a repeat offender and Risto gets 3. Brandon Manning is laughing his ass off now. |

Right
Because Bjorkstrand didn't make a sharp right turn toward the boards in and effort to shake Polak only to get pinched. His direction and head end facing the direction he had just come from! |
