It is a big deal, because now, he's on record as having a 3 game suspension, so down the road when something questionable happens, and it will, purely because of his size. He won't get the benefit of the doubt. - Wetbandit1
This was my worry about the hearing as well. He's got a long career ahead of him and now officially has a "reputation..."

I know O'Rilley is "Mr. gentlemanly player," but its a lost season. I really would have liked to see him get up and spear Crosby in the face. Sure he would have been suspended for the rest of the year, may be a little in to next year, but someone has to do something about this guy if the league isn't going to.
That finger looked nasty. 2 games in a row for the golden child....

"It was during his follow through just like ROR's testicles were in Sids way the other night in Buffalo"
That looked really nasty.
At least the puck was in the area... - Stripes77
Well, according to our friends in the Pittsburgh thread, it's okay that Sid hit O'reilly in the junk, even justified, because Sid has been bullied in the past. I gotta go now, because I was once bullied in the 3rd grade, so I'm on my way to rob a 7-11.
"Methot should further receive the max fine for embellishing the injury by taking his glove off and showing the entire arena his quite literally chopped off finger. Shame on Methot for not having more respect for Sid and the game" - Sabresfan-365
Especially the "respect for the game" part. Well done.

Crosby is a pos, continually gets away with this stuff. NHL is a joke of a league...
I highly doubt Wolverine was even circumcised. He was born in the 1880's on a farm in Canada. He would have required a Jewish doctor or Rabbi to perform the circumcision and it hadn't become a widespread medical practice until well into the 20th century, being a post-WWII phenomenon (Jewish refugees = Jewish doctors).
It's not even a debate. Wolverine was never circumcised to begin with.
Tampa smokes Boston ................ I'm SO loving this latest Bruin collapse. In fact .............. I'd rather see the Leafs sneak in at the expense of Boston .... and I hate the Leafs.
Methots hand was in crosbys way, should be punished by player safety but wont be *sigh* - Sabresfan-365
I honestly couldn't tell if that FG thought that Crosby's spear was actually ok because he's the best and we should all look the other way. Absolutely no one said anything about it after that. Well for the 5 minutes I was there, there was plenty about how we should string up Risto for his worst hit of the century. But nothing other than that statement about Crosby's scumbaggedness.

I would love to be a fly on the wall in these player safety hearings. Ristolainen deserved a suspension, but 3 games seems high. Is it really because the league is "out to get the Buffalo Sabres" or is the player/ player representative doing a poopty job of defending his actions? Does the player not get a say in these things? I know it's Pittsburgh, but does the league (or even the Pittsburgh Penguins for that matter) really benefit from the Buffalo Sabres being without Rasmus Ristolainen for 3 games?

This is the problem though. Crosby's spear and Ristolainen's hit should be looked at separately. Crosby definitely should have been suspended, but the fact that he wasn't does not absolve Ristolainen's hit in any way, shape, or form. 3 games is definitely harsh, but a suspension was definitely warranted. The correct answer here was both being suspended, not neither.
