I'm assuming that Stolarz will be the protected one, but I'm not sold that it's because they want to bring him up next year; I think it's because they don't want to lose him for the future.
- Scoob

Since he's waiver exempt for 17-18 the AHL is the most likely place for him to start. That's also why he would be a nice pick for Vegas as their 3rd or 4th goalie. They could make him their AHL starter without having to worry about waivers.

Him and Lyon are both .910 now, and I'm not sure who the playoff starter will be.

They sure aren't playing like they want to move on, right now it seems their trust is in him.
- LJF

He's playing for a new contract and he's playing well. So ride him. Who wouldn't? Give him the chance to see what he can do but I feel it's too little too late. Course that defines this season for me...

I can't speak for them, and I am a pretty safe driver, regardless of what I think about speed limits. I do go through red lights too. Some of it is being late, some of it is having better things to do, and some of it is just being mad at inefficiencies in roads/traffic patterns. I don't want to crash and/or die, and I don't want someone else to crash and/or die. So if I feel like the situation isn't safe I will lay off. A lot of what you are saying comes down to the assumption that everyone is driving somewhere to get from point A to point B. It means more to people sometimes. It also sounds like an assumption that an accident is always caused by someone who wanted to be in front of someone driving the speed limit.

My morning was ruined the same way your Flyers game would be ruined if someone stood in front of you all game. I like to drive and there are certain roads that are more fun than others. I look forward to getting to them and its a bummer when someone that has no reason to care about that winds up in front of me right before I get there.

- YuenglingJagr

So wait....going to an entertainment event that I paid money to and not being able to experience that entertainment is the same as you not being able to break a law? Roads aren't (generally) made to be "fun," they're made for your automobile to traverse safely.

And no, not all accidents are caused by people racing down the roads. But when I'm in the right lane doing 5 mph over the speed limit and some dude swerves out of the left lane, races up until he's on my ass and then cuts back into the left lane to get one car length ahead...you can't tell me you think that is an acceptable way to drive.

And if you have "better things to do" then leave earlier. If you're doing 70 instead of 55, what are you saving? 5, maybe 10 minutes? Is it really that important to you? Does someone really "ruin" tour drive by not letting you break the law excessively?

And for the record, yes, everyone is driving to get from point A to point B. I',m not sure what "it means more" means, but in the end, you are starting at a point and ending at a point.

I think they can tolerate him as a back up and now that he's signed they can expose him to Las Vegas. No skin off their nose if he gets selected and if he stays it's in a back up role.
Course I'm not floored by the FA selection on goalies. People would lose their poop if Flower came here. But I think they are seriously shopping both FA and possible trades for a goalie. Just my unedumecated opinion.

- FlyersGrace

Who's Flower?

Of the UFAs, I think former King Bernier could be who Hextall is targeting. Maybe two years at $3.5m? His worst NHL season was .908, and that was on the dumpster fire 15-16 Leafs.

Fleury as there is so much talk about him. And you well could be right.

EDIT: But MOAT. MOAT is always wrong.

Money is part of it - definitely. Mason may also not want the back-up role. And I'm not entirely convinced that the relationship between him and the Flyers brass is all spun sugar and rainbows. Could he be back - sure. But I'd be a touch surprised and I have no doubt that we are kicking tires on trade deals.
- FlyersGrace

I don't think there will be trades. Other teams (Pittsburgh and LA) will be trading goalies for next to nothing, and other teams have already shed their "extra" starting goalies.

The fact that the Flyers pursued talks with Neuvirth and not Mason is mind boggling. You may not like him, but he's the better goalie and has had better results over their respective times here.

I personally like Mason a great deal. However, my gut says the writing is on the wall with this team/this management.
Maybe I'm just trying to rationalize the Neuvirth signing.

I know I may be old and boring, but I've seen enough accidents and near-accidents happen by people being impatient that I just don't care about speeding. If I need to leave 5 minutes earlier or show up 5 minutes later, so be it.

96 miles round trip 5 days a week.

When gas was $2 a gallon I owned an Xterra.

- mayorofangrytown

My first job was down in Glasgow, De.

It was a 90 mile round trip, also for 5 days a week. However, this was in 07-08. I got my parents old car as my own, and that was a Mercury Mountaineer. It got 12-15 miles to the gallon. Gas was almost $5 a gallon at the time. I was seriously paying close to $450 a month in gas.

Some roads are, some roads aren't. In faireness, I knew it was a weak comparison, just trying to point out the expectation vs. reality discrepancy of my "ruined" morning.

Sometimes I leave point A, drive around for a while for enjoyment, and return to point A. There is no time I had to leave, time I had to get back by, or amount of time it needed to take. I just do it for fun.

Wow, explains the Prius. I drive an Explorer, had a truck with a reserve tank. I like being higher on the roads but the gas cost each week can be a bummer.

I've driven a Civic and its a nice little ride. Just don't like being in such a small car.

Hey, if you like paying money to waste fossil fuels, more power to you. You're still using those roads to start at Point A and arrive at Point B, they just happen to be the same point.

And unless it's a track, roads are made primarily for safe automobile driving. That is why they are designed by engineers and have posted speed limits.

My gut says that Hakstol has always liked Neuvirth better and favored him through much of this season for whatever reason. This late stretch seems to mostly be because he is the only goalie playing well. Neuvirth did play well in Columbus though.

Hey...

They never listen to me anyhow or we'd still have Bob.

I'd dump both goalies. They agitated me this season between the injuries and the poor play. I'd bring up Stolarz and sign Miller. They won't and when they don't I'll be right.

See how that works?

The Xterra was costing me $150 a week when I dumped it for the Prius.

First week... $25. I was in love.

People here talk about People's Plaza like it's the greatest thing in the world. It's a 2nd rate shopping plaza with a few decent restaurants.

Hak likes Neuvirth better, but plays Mason much more often.

It must be because Mason has a stellar .912 SV% compared to Neuvirth's awful .911 in the Hakstol era.

That's why I picked the Prius (besides the gas savings). I was amazed by how much room the cabin has.

Like you, I'm not a fan of the low ride but wth, it gets me back and forth reliably and cheap.

All I remember was a home depot and it was a poopty one at that. I (frank)ing hated driving down there in the summer. One time I was picking up my wife and heading straight to the shore (we were dating then) so I cut out early on a Friday. Left at 3:00 and didnt get to her house until 9:15. Made it to Cape May by mid night. Shoulda just went to the Outer Banks.

Yet not all cars are the same. Driving the speed limit is not always driving safely. Sounds ridiculous, but it isn't. Speed differential is actually more dangerous than excessive speed.

The posted speed limit isn't the speed in which me driving my car can safely get from Point A to Point B (which might be the same as Point A).
