7 years after 1 season for Z....oh boy...been down this road.
It better be for under 4.5.
It could be a great deal if he continues to improve.....or bad one if this was an anomaly.
The next two years are the leafs best chance at a cup (cap wise), lets hope they make the necessary moves.

So much for those who thought Tampa, Boston and Carolina had no shot.
They are keeping pace. With Stammer back....Lightning could make some noise.

Keep on winning leafs.

Ya, not sure on him yet either, oh well.....I doubt Shanny even reads the emails I send him.

We already met our 4pt Kaptaan quota?
- Fakepartofme

You're (frank)ed now.

Also: 7 years for Zaitsev..... I feel like it's too long unless it involves receiving considerably less money per year.

I like him but as you said... wouldn't be the first guy to get 1 good season....

I'm not too worried though, he's been solid all year.... just gotta avoid overpaying if you're giving him long term.

The mantra in the room must be about making up ground on the Sens at this point. In and home ice advantage would be yuge
- TheMussel

Those 17 pts they choked away in the last 5 mins of games are haunting them now as predicted.

Gotta keep this going boys.
Gotta win against Detroit.
12pts left .....feel they need to 7-8 of those to say in 3rd...comfortably.

Yup, gotta keep winning because nothing is stopping the Bolts and Canes.

Fully expect the Habs to rest Price vs the Lightning.

The term could be the issue if he takes a step back.
They are reporting 4.5......3.5 - 4 would be better.
We're gonna lost about 5 million in cap space to bonuses and this stupid kessel contract. I hope Lou and co have drop the idea of taking on bad contracts for a pick. they're gonna have to plan wisely for the next 3 years......the next 2 years are their best years for a cup (cap wise)

Brown was quietly had a great rookie season and has gone under the radar. This is the story of his career so far for some reason, yet he has excelled at every level.

Doesn't seem to be super skilled, but can skate and has excellent hockey sense and always makes the right play. I would like to see him take Hyman's spot next to Matthews.

Oh, and also...

Glad you mentioned Brown. He needs one more goal to get twenty this year, hope he does it. He is super skilled, he played on a line with McDavid in junior and outscored him, albeit, McDavid missed 20 games due to a broken hand. He kept scoring even when McDavid was out. Brown also scored 61 pts in his first year with the Marlies. So he is talented, skates and shoots really well and is very tenacious. The only reason he was drafted in the 6th round was that he was 140 lbs in his last year of junior. He is now listed at 170, still small, but having a great season. When was the last time the Leafs drafted and developed a sixth rounder and he scored 20 in his rookie year? Only comparable I can think of was Steve Thomas, who was undrafted and scored 20 in his rookie year.

Only if he continues to improve.
We've all seen players have 1 great year then fall off.

- Fakepartofme

The logic would be that if he's a top-4 now, if he remains at this level of play for 4 years, is it worth the potential of a decline in his early 30's if he's only making 4.25 or something around that mark.

It's completely safe if there are no more than 2cm of snow on it.

If the Sens lose another, I'm really going to enjoy my radio rides in the morning. They spent about 10 minutes yesterday talking about how they had nothing to worry about. I predict the "Colin White for Saviour" calls will be loud and clear now.
- AdamFrench

I don't understand how anyone can look at that organization and not see just how much of a mess it is right now.

You don't sign young 2nd pairing D for $3.5M long term through their prime. No way. $4.5M is fair market value, for the player he is right now, in his rookie season. I think in UFA he might get more.
