ok then thats my bad. There's a few names there though just outside the trade market.
Vancouver found Stetcher and Tryamkin
Toronto found Zaitsev - Sabresfan-365
and murray went all in on bogo, franson, gorges and kulikov

Goligoski could've been an option. Same with Demers.
If the argument was theres nothing he could've done to make it a cup contender that quickly i agree *except he shouldnt have set such lofty expectations*.
They easily could've put together a playoff one. Ive said it already but if this team was even mediocre 5v5 we're in the playoff hunt. its that bad, after 4 years.
If he had done nothing about the blueline, we'd still be in a better spot. Problem was he did something dumb, like identifying 2 pylons as top four guys. - Sabresfan-365
Dougie Hamilton
Jason Demers
Keith Yandle
Seth Jones
Alex Goligoski
Subban
Matt Irwin
Nick Holden
Nikita Zaitsev
All would be upgrades all over our blue line

some of these names were realistically unattainable but he had options. There's also the deals that never happened. Still curious about that Faulk/8th pick thing last year |

Okposo is going to end up with under 50 points
Kane is going to most likely score under 30 again.
When is someone going to come here and exceed expectations?
Anyone? |

Michael Pachla: Buffalo Sabres 2016-17 Individual Stats--March - Michael Pachla
Hi Mike!
So tell me, to make the playoffs next year or the year after, what do the Sabres need to do ,and, more importantly, how do they do it?
And if you think staying healthy and the natural progression of the young guys is enough, I will forever disregard your opinion, as your hockey knowledge will obviously be pretty weak.
Cheers! |

I'm open to this discussion but I think this is easier to say than to prove. Please provide specifics to support this generality.
Since Murray was hired in Jan 2014, what GOOD DEFENSEMAN has Murray traded away? And what GOOD DEFENSEMAN has come into the league or been traded that Murray did not get.
I can think of 4 significant trades involving Dmen - Larsson, Seth Jones, and Subban/Weber. The only killer Dman drafted was Ekblad, and we had no shot at him. What else am I missing? - Der Kaiser
We did trade McNabb & Pysyk...
Maybe not "good" defensemen, but I bet most would like them back
And as far as drafting goes...
GMTM blew it when he reached for 2 forwards in the '15 draft instead of taking defensemen which were higher ranked, and a position where we needed depth
We had just drafted something like 5 forwards in the 1st two rounds that draft & the previous one...
Sure, those guys (McKeown, Dougherty, Montour) haven't developed yet...
but they're on the verge of playing in the NHL
and at the very least, would be decent trade bait |

I heard canes wanted 2016 first
murray countered with 2017 first
once kulikov trade was made, talks ended |

Excited for Wrestlemania? Not really.
For the Oilers? (frank)en rights. Getting red hot at the right time. Expectations for the playoffs are low, just happy they're finally there.
The Oilers are not finished. They are good, but they have a bit more work to do before they are great. |

Oops, my bad
My big thing is that he's basically ignore some defense in the first 2 rounds
That's ridiculous imo bc he's had plenty of picks |

the ideal for him, imo, would be a 4yr/$25m contract with buffalo |

I would much rather have McNabb and two second round picks than Fasching and Deslaurier. I would much rather have Pysyk than Kulikov.
Do you think LA fans and Florida fans think they lost those trades?
Do you think the Sabres are better after making those two trades?
Tim Murray's expertise is supposedly as a talent evaluator from his experience as a scout. In these two instances he failed miserably. A top four defenseman is much more valuable than a couple of bottom six forwards. And considering this team is lacking puck moving defenseman who can make a breakout pass, the Pysyk trade made no sense. |

neither mcnabb or pysyk are top-four d-men...mcnabb's been a healthy scratch quite often lately and pysyk has been used mostly on the third pairing...
in defense of kuli, I think people underestimate what the injury did to his season, not to mention missing most of camp because of the world cup of hockey |

People can claim Pysyk isn't very good all they want. Doesn't make it true.
He's a cheap #4 D man. He's not great, but he's also what we lack in terms of moving the puck |
