Kane's value is a lot higher than any player that will be left exposed to Vegas.
- sskkoo1

I think it could be a great fit. Kane would love Vegas and they get him on a one year deal, to bring assets back at the trade deadline.not to mention with his 5.25 million off the books I think that would give sabres almost 16 million in cap space

Who do you think will be made available? RoR had a year left on his contract and look at what we paid to get him. Not saying Kane would fetch as much, but he's proved his worth this year, so I think a 1st plus a middle pairing guy would be the asking price.
- sskkoo1

Honestly we gave more for Kane and by one get one

Hell of a morning so far. Tornadoes in the area, hiding in a building with no shelter, so there is that.

Brodin, Folwer, Nashville would also be risking losing someone like James Neal because unless they make a trade, will have to protect 4 D.

I could see a Kane + for a Ryan Ellis or Reinhart for Ekholm type of trade

We have a lot of money coming off the books this off season, so Kane's money is no problem, and we'll have even more dead weight contracts expiring next year as well.

If we don't resign Kane and choose to trade him at the deadline it won't be to Vegas, they won't be a playoff team.

If they chose to trade Kane to Vegas this summer, it would be for what? What assets does Vegas have to send our way? They won't give us their 1st round pick in team history and their roster will be made up of other teams garbage. If someone wants Kane, they're going to have pay up, Murray is not going to give him away, we saw that much at this past deadline.

As for Kane liking Vegas, who cares what he likes.

If anything, it's to a team that doesn't want to lose a D man for nothing.

Right. I don't see a making a deal with Vegas for Kane. He might want to play there, but too bad, he can sign where he wants as a UFA. If we move him this summer it will be for a top 4 defenseman, probably one coming from a team that has more than they can protect.

this board is like, 9% people who understand reality and then 91% weirdo video game playing dreamers.
I like Guhle. We could possibly ruin him if we expect him to fill a 3-4 role on this team. We dont have the depth to ruin a defenceman right now...
if he blows minds in training camp, so be it. but don't force it.
Right?

- seedy

Serious question: how does playing Guhle in the bottom pair right from the start potentially ruin him?

Gorges isn't good enough for even the 7th D role. I mean, have we not all watched Gorges 'play' this season? Come on.

He was stating, if I was reading correctly, that if we put him in a 3-4 role it could ruin him. Not that giving him bottom pair minutes would.

Vegas goes heavy Defenseman trades for top end talent

I.e. Hall for Larsson

I dont think he was that bad. Leafs played him pretty well and at least he was trying compared to the rest of the team.

The way this team plays suggests the leadership isnt very good anyways

- Sabresfan-365

They basically double and triple teamed him all game and decided to let others beat him, and he didn't realize it soon enough while others didn't step up.

I'm probably in the minority, but I don't think him playing the second pair would ruin him either.

That said, it would be great if they had enough quality depth where he could play the third pairing.

Just about every team is looking for defensemen. We are in the same boat as you guys.

Just as a Leafs example, you would likely be competing against a JVR or JVR+ offer and I doubt you could ever make a case for Kane over JVR, especially with the history of douchbaggery.

I am sure other teams could also put together offers for those guys.

.. oh, and, sadly, I seriously doubt Fowler is available now. It sucks for both our teams that fixing the D is a pretty tough task.

I bet lots of teams thinking the same. It is going to be the usual seller's market for D-men with ridiculous asking prices.

How Vegas has no assets? They have no Adam Larsson to trade.

I really feel Cal is as good as gone. It makes no sense for him to sign with us. There is talk of Chicago shopping Crawford and if so, he'll return them a 1st and free up 6 million in cap space. Cal could sign with them, be close to home, play for his surely hometown team in the Blackhawks (more than like be their starter) and compete for a Cup in his rookie year. So, really why sign with us, not explore all your options, and start in the AHL next season?
- sskkoo1

First, Crawford is going to return them a 1st round pick? How?

For as good as he is, he's being paid $6M per season for 3 more years until he is 35.

Also, Cal being anybody's starting goaltender right away is a big time stretch, outside of the Sabres signing him and playing him in one game at the end of this year to burn a year on his ELC.

I am guessing some decent Dmen will be left unprotected.

Expect Sabres' scratches to be Jake McCabe, C.J. Smith and Will Carrier. They're doing extra work with assistant coaches.

It's just an example. I couldn't care less what Chicago gets for Crawford, the point is they're moving on from him and will look at Petersen, so will Tampa and a host of others. Why would Petersen sign here when he's so close to UFA status and there are other teams in much more need of a starting goalie? We all want him to sign here, but the obvious choice for him would be to move on and check out all his options. Petersen will probably be this years Vesey.

I don't see anyone leaving a Dman unprotected that would be good enough for Vegas to select and then have Murray to trade Kane for. Dmen that good will be moved before the expansion draft, so the team losing them at least gets something in return.

HUH????maybe they are tanking.... what reason possible would they have to not play McCabe, unless he is hurt?

McCabe was dreadful in our last game, and has been playing poorly for a while now. Maybe he does have an injury we don't know about though.

Moulson and Nylander are in, I'm guessing.

Chicago may want to move on from Crawford but it will not be easy.

Why would Tampa be looking at him? They have Vasilevskiy signed at a reasonable number for the next three seasons and he has played well. Cal would not be their number 1 unless you think Tampa is moving on from Vasilevskiy already, which I highly doubt.

Agreed on him checking out all his options being smart.
