I would pay between 4.5-5 mill for him, cause I hate overpaying for UFA's, it never works out, especially when these older players want 6 years (lucic, Eriksson, even Kesler's deal).
If he were to sign for 2 years at 5.5 million (better deal IMO at first glance than Vrbata's of a few years ago) I would do it. Term is scarier with players over 30 more than $ in my opinion. - Codes1087

It should not be hard for an organization to slot in a prospect or two that has been playing in the AHL for two or three years.
Move out the old guy when he STARTS to slow down and bring in the new guy - VANTEL
As a general statement, all NHL teams overpay and hang on to star players too long, I was actually having this conversation with a guy last night as we were watching the Oilers game in the lounge.
Kopitar is 29, they signed him at 10 million per until he's 36, that's gonna come back to bite them in the ass just like the twins deals are in Vancouver. Sure he's fine now, even though he had a bad/poor year for him, but when he gets older it's gonna hurt. |

Kings have a lot of up coming cap problems and there are a few other teams also . Hawks may be in that boat too in two more years. But , The do have the hardware.

I really believe a lot of these long term deals are done so with the expectation that they can be bought out in 2019 when the cba is renegotiated

how often do games go to shootouts anymore lol. - Codes1087
looks like the average is around 7-8. https://www.sportingchart...out-wins-and-losses/2016/
getting 3-4 more points is pretty crucial. The current climate is teams missing the playoffs by that margin. Just saying it adds a lot to his valuation IMO. But yeah, I guess they are trying to reduce them. |

Flames aren't going anywhere. Good loyal base of fans there. Just need to get that new Arena thing solved. |

And once they move on from Lou they'll be better. Rowe was still a train wreck though. - LordHumungous
Yeah they did some weird stuff this year but I beieve regardless of that if they had JH all year they are a playoff team |

I might be the minority, but I am not going to want Benning to overpay another high profile UFA with insane term/$ with the justification being he is really good in the shootouts at 66.7%. Don't get me wrong, that's a great percentage, but not a good enough justification IMO |

Yup...they can rest on their laurels at least. The Gaborik deal was dumb. The Brown deal was suspect and way too long. At least Kopitar is still a world class player. |

Of the list, next seasons line combos pisses me off the most. No point yet. Let's see what happens after the draft. This draft will set the tone for next season. |
