The days of the defensive defenceman are slowly coming to an end. No more Bill Hajts or Jerry Korabs. They are all quick and offensive and not very big. Makes for a more exciting product on the ice but always liked having defensive guys on my team. - Matthews_Auston
I miss Jerry Korab.
What he did to the Soviets in that game decades ago was a sight to see. |

the optional skate isnt what it once was. The fact that jack and sam missed this one is a non story. Im willing to bet matthews, mcdavid, laine etc. have all chosen to take the option in an optional morning skate. - Sabresfan-365
Now you're just killing my fantasy where Bylsma gets fired for this |

So the whole team goes to the optional skate after getting their ass handed to them and you're making up excuses for Jack,Sam
These guys are supposed to be the leaders of our team - GERBE!!!75PTS
Im willing to bet anything that the whole team wasnt there. I prefer my star players to show up in the games that matter. I couldn't care less whether they take an optional skate or not. |

I'm sure it would be a different story if Jack eichel and Sam we're the ones that planned the optional skate
People saying you know that's true leadership qualities.
But I guess they get a pass it is what it is |

if they were about to play a do or die game and the whole team showed up except them then there's a story. How many games has eichel been the only one who's "shown up". If he wants some shut eye in the morning im good with that. They all do it now(yes even your bro's golden child). |

Well if the rest were all there and they weren't, I can see that not going over so well with the other players. These 2 turkeys are starting to get the Richie and Cartsie rep. Hope being roomies isn't detrimental. |

Specifically on fowler since thats the rumour that came up. The faulk one would have been nice. - Sabresfan-365
For some reason, I remember quite a few saying on to the 8th pick for Faulk as well. Not you specifically, but it was not an everyone on board move from memory. |

Since when has Guhle been an offensive defenseman? - chilliard77
His performance since the trade in Juniors is what's getting everyone excited for his offensive potential (29 points in 22 games). |

Makes a helluva difference after the fact. Mainly because the 8th pick could of hypothetically have been a number of guys. Now that it's Nylander in the AHL it's viewed differently |

Don't get too excited then .. it's pretty normal in juniors |

There were quite a few, but i like faulk over fowler. especially under contract at that cap hit. |

I just think about where this team would be today if they cut ties with bogosian and added faulk last year. |

My father and I (both wanted Leon and Bennett respectively) always joke about how we are waiting for him to "beat teams with his mind".
I am starting to be truly amazed that he was touted over everyone including Nylander and Ehlers as a better prospect. - sbroads24
Hindsight sure is 20/20, isn't it?
Pretty easy to say that now. |

If Armia, Lemieux, Compher, Roslovic or White turn into super stars than maybe you're right. Issue is they haven't and while the latter two show some promise, I'm not convinced we don't have replacement prospects already in the system. Roslovic hurts, but Armia...Compher...we have a number of prospects at or near their level. Wouldn't really change anything other than we would be awful right now and have a bit more of a log jam down the road. |

And awful last year, with Matthews, Laine in the draft.
And a bevy of prospects to deal after we landed another stud.
I can't imagine we wouldn't have been 30th or very close if you subtract ROR and Kane from last years team, and replaced them with the guys who weren't even in the NHL yet. |

A lot of it is opportunity though
Bennett's most common linemates have been Troy Brouwer and Kris Versteeg
Reinhart's have been Jack Eichel, Foligno, and a close 2nd Kane. - sbroads24
Agree on the opportunity being a factor, but he still has a whopping 25 points in 79 games, which is putrid. |
