Exactly. By their logic we should never get rid of anyone because they might be the next Bob. And yet at the same time they want to trade everyone for everything. - hereticpride
Yet at the same time they want to build through the draft until they start building through the draft. |

Gotta female dog about something i guess. Egg on their face.
I mean do i wish they would've handled him better he stays and wins 2 Vezina's here? (assuming he wins this year which he should) of course, but there's no guarantee he wins one here. Mason has been the least of their problems during his tenure as a Flyer.
I'm more worried about the steady decline of Giroux as he's barely just hit age 30, or the lack of offensive creativity this entire team displays 5 vs 5. |

I grant you "Flawed". Piss poor probably is a tad strong....As far as the 10 game win streak, I think it's fair to say that they didn't deserve to win all those games , just as it's fair to say they probably lost some games where I thought they were actually the better team. As far as Torts as a coach....if you listen to the media, he was on his death bed. But media don't make personel decisions. Someone else pointed out in a recent post about shelf life for a coach ....that's a good and fair argument.
Did Columbus "Gel" this year or did they make a major change to their core at the end of last year and infuse their team with several draft picks over the last few years that have come in to their own this year?
If the Flyers are Flawed, which I think it's fair to say, then it's the GMs job to make changes and try and correct the "flaws". I'm glad and can appreciate your opinion on Hextall....to me I'll wait a little longer to see how this team grows and hopefully doesn't regress. - landros 2
I think Clb success this season is directly attributed to health. Last year, many preseason predictions had them being a playoff team and even playing for the cup. They were decimated by injuries, key being Bob. This year they are healthy and Bob has Been great |

Glad to see them playing with pride today. At this point whether they pick 12th or 13th is pretty much meaningless. Much more important to me to see guys like TK, Provy, Coots and Weal having strong games. I hope they go out and thrash the Canes tomorrow too. |

Hope to you see you again in a Flyers sweater Steve Mason. I don't think Al Morganti knows what he is talking about. |

If you needed any proof of just how much this team sucks when it's an empty net just watch that whole sequence. Wow, i know Wayne Train and Cooter don't exactly have amazing puck skills but that was hilarious |

Pretty strong game all around today. Can't even blame Mase for the two flukey goals against. Too little too late sadly. |

"The Flyers missing the playoffs cannot be pinned on their goaltending"
-Bill Clement
Sorry Bill, but woefully inconsistent goaltending for much of this season is one of the main reasons they are in the draft lottery. In fact, the only bigger reason is probably Giroux's ineffectiveness for much of the year. |

I certainly agree with the 2nd sentence.
As to the teams goaltending plans going forward, who knows? Hexy keeps a tight lid on stuff like this. |

Yeah, I immediately did a double take at the TV when I heard that. Mase/Neuvy were both far too inconsistent this year. |

I'd put the top 3 reasons as
1) Forgetting how to score during the winter, as a team
2) Subpar goalies
3) Giroux forgetting how to be good for 70 games
To put it another way, if Mase has a pretty good year, they might be a 6-7 seed. I think- keeping the same goalie situation- if they weren't putrid on offense from December to March, it has a bigger impact on the team's position than if their offense was still putrid and the goalies played out of their mind.
I'm not arguing, they're both big deals, but I just think they're here more because of their Dec-March trough than because of inconsistent goalies. |

Few thoughts
-Listen learned. Building upon this season. We took the foot off the gas after the 10 game winning streak and everyone knows in that dressing room that this can't happen again. However, we knew this was only going to be a bubble team. Now moving forward, the youngsters have to make the team on the back end. Samuel Morin will be a Flyers come October next season.
-Flyers goaltending. I hope Ron Hextall knows exactly what he's doing if he allows Mason to walk.
-Absolute crucial off season. Young kids aside, the Vegas draft is likely to recycle something we need to throw away. I'm just hoping Hextall doesn't bring back something we need to let go of (Chris Vandevelde). Not just focusing on moves, I think there should be focus on the health of the players. Would it be smart for Claude Giroux to receive therapy on his hips? |
