I'm all for digging ourselves in a hole (tanking), but moving those guys will all be ensure that we won't be getting out any-time soon. - Whiskey-Tango

Seriously what is there to protect?
First of all you get a valued piece back , and secondly he is gone in two years anyways |

Keeping Sbisa this year allows you to trade him at TDL for a second round pick. He should be protected - VANTEL
Somehow I doubt that. |

I think it's worth protecting Stetcher, Hutton, Tree and OJ (and hell, even E.G) from having to play top line minutes and match-ups at this stage of their careers.
Edit: Additionally, it has been proven time and again that having a younger D-core then your assembled forward line-up is a recipe for disaster. |

Carol, I'm wondering if you also write a mock NFL draft.
If you do, can you post a link to it closer to draft weekend? Thanks. - golfingsince
Sorry, I got nothin' when it comes to NFL.
If Sergio finally wins his first major today, that'd be a sign of hope for Canucks fans. Anything's possible! |

Fair. It's just that Sbisa is actually a bad player with little playoff experience (20 games) while Burrows was having some success this year and is viewed around the league as the sort of guy you want on your team in the playoffs. |

It's possible the D could look decent next year if it stays relatively healthy and the young players all take a couple of steps.
Losing Edler and/or Tanev would be a huge hole. |

No kidding, much like the Cubs win gave hope to Leafs fans. |

Thanks Carol, you are the best.
Never been a fan of allowing fans to vote for awards as it becomes a popularity contest not a true indication of who is the appropriate person for said award.
Nice to see the youth now being given opportunity and recognition though. |

As much as the return you could get for Tanev is enticing, I have to agree with this. The importance of sheltering your up-and-coming blueline as well as keeping good RHD can't be understated. |

If we somehow moved one of or both Edler and Tanev, I'd guess we would be signing a ufa dman for a year or two or more.
I'm torn a bit on value of these two, I guess much of it depends on the return and if there are really any attractive options/trading partners.

Wouldn't that same logic apply to our forwards if you don't address the scoring issue? |

Didn't you hear that Stecher is our best D-man....
In all seriousness though all trades makes sense if you get decent enough return. Trading Edler or Tanev just for the sake of moving them won't accomplish anything and will likely be a hindrance to the kids development.
I can understand tanking at this point of the season but you don't set your team up to fail from day one.
Going into next season with a defense of
Edler Stecher
Hutton Tanev
Tryamkin Gudbranson
Is a good mix of vets and youth IMO. |

And go lose 50 games 4-2 3-1 |

I pesonally think Edler is not that good but he does have good trade value now. We are doing the Dan Hamhuis debate all over again.
Hamhuis was 32 when we let him walk for nothing , Edler now 30 we will do the same when he is 32 and refuses to waive |

That's what bad teams do. Although I expect the Canucks are better next year even if it is marginal. |

It would if you didn't already have those shelter guys. As much as I malign them in their old age, the Sedins still attract enough attention from opposing teams that they help in sheltering those further down. I think Eriksson and Sutter can be counted on for between 35 and 45 points each heading into next year even if they face harder competition. Add Bo and Baer as your main scoring threats and I think you guys should be fine to shelter your newcomers.
I'm also not advocating for trading any forwards, either. |

51 loses this year. 42 in regulation 9 in OT.
Next year no Burrows no Hansen and Sedins one year older. I am not expecting much next year. Even more so now that we Megna will be back. |

I hope he is Utica bound at the start of the season.
going by the last lineup predictions, courtesy of Nighthawk,
Presuming we get Nico
Sven BO LE
Goldy Nico BB
Dank Hank Granlund
Labate Sutter DD
Megna Boucher
I'd bet we will see some moves in the forward group, even if we don't move Tanev or Edler. |

I've hated that contract since day one, but the reality of the matter is that he's among your best forwards right now. People may not like it, but part of going through a rebuild is tolerating less-than-ideal players and contracts to allow for the development of your youth. He can be your guys' Horcoff, but without the absurd 73 point season. |
