Green is not the man for this job. He would be a first timer and ruin his reputation. We need a veteran.

1. Crawford
2. Hitchcock (Favorite, IMHO)
3. Ruff (Long shot)
4. Gallant
5. Hartley

I assume Crawford at #1 since you want up-tempo, offensive hockey? Sheldon Keefe would be the best choice for that.

It begins again.

The Canucks are wasting no time in setting up another tumultuous offseason.

Here's the new blog, with the rundown from Edmonton and a few thoughts on Willie and his gang.

I dont think anyone fits that mold because sadly I dont think it exists in hockey. The game has been over-coached and scrutinized enough that room for innovation is lost

Maybe. Wins are squeezed out by D is the tried and true. But notice the new type of player. The speed. Tweeks to rule changes it may allow for it. This coach may be an assistant now waiting for his break to show his way. What do you think of Dineen?

No. No order. Crawford is not my #1.

I really do not have a #1. I just do not want another first timer.

I think hockey has no room left for innovation. Players are smarter and adapt to things they see. They understand angles, controlling gaps and positional play better than any previous era, they will disrupt and clog any new innovative idea before it gets out of the practice rink. Even if it makes it into a game, it will only take a game before its disected and defended. Hockey will always come down who can execute better and exploit the opportunities, no new system will come in and turn the league upside down

There's plenty of room for innovation... Just no innovators.

The last innovator was Guy Boucher, and he didn't innovate offensively.

This is exactly why you want a good players coach.

Wasnt it filpula who blocked his trade to toronto because he hated babcock so much? So prime example of what your talking about just a few weeks ago.

- mauryballstein

Well, that reason was never stated. It isn't like that is the only possible reason to not want to come to Toronto, but it wouldn't surprise me if that was the reason.

I could see Babcock being a very polarizing guy. He certainly seems to have players he likes and players he doesn't and there is no escaping the bad list once you are on it.

A quick look at old hockey highlights, from the 80's and 90's should make it apparent that goalie equipment is the problem. Carey Price skates a total of about 6 feet every night.

There is room for innovation as the league needs it, but I dont think anyone can or will deliver, particularly offensively. There will be players that break games open (McJesus) or design a few plays on their own (Sedin's fake icing bank pass), but I cant ever see an offensive system that is unlike anything we have seen previously

Maybe we can all finally move on from the WD debate. It doesn't matter if the players suck. They will and are being changed. But he was part of the problem so moving on from him is part of rebuilding.

I prefer they bring in an innovative offensive minded tactician coach to lay those foundations of a new style of Nuck hockey.

All of the other fired coaches available don't fit that mold above. They seem WD like but more competent types. Be creative and bold JB and Linden. More of the same won't produce a better product.
