Trade Edler and sign Kulikov (parnter with Tree?).
I would. - dbot
Why?
Kulikov represents everything this fan-base hates about Edler except he is worse in every regard. |

If we had a do-over, would we still take LE over Looch?
cue the votes for 'neither' !!
I wanted Lucic, he's proving his value now, while LE continues to sit out. - dbot
Lucic said no to JB for coming here. He and LE were both wanted. Why JB's plan for the year was thwarted. Then you heard talk, after Lucic snub, the Nucks were looking for a top 6 winger with size. That's where plan B trade for one in E. Kane also failed. Plan C was JV. His added size was a hinderence. Thus the year of the plug took hold. |

Tonight's game hopefully marks the last time we will have to see the likes of Larsen, Skille, Chaput, Shore and perhaps even Sbisa in a Canuck's Uni
Glass half full. - Whiskey-Tango
I'd keep Chaput imo.
Agreed on the rest and then some... |

As is obvious, I guess it would depend on the return.
I honestly have no idea how the league would value Edler.
When looking at comparable trades, the only one that comes to mind in both age, style and stats is Dion Phaneuf, and he was a traded for a steaming pile of garbage. Obviously his contract was a big factor in that however...
Anyone? |

So he's replacing Elder who has only 2 years left. Then, if one could replace the other, why wouldn't the Nuck trade partner skip losing assets and just sign Kulikov? |

I think Edler's return would be much higher than Phaneuf, especially if he was dealt on an expiring contract. |

But if you had to pick one?
I was ok with LE and think he'll improve (can't be much worse tbh).
i'd still take Lucic tho. - dbot
Lucic if I had to pick
Preferred Okposo over both though |

I don't like Kulikov but I'd be down for that. Trade Edler and sign a stopgap UFA vet dman for 2-3 years to eat minutes. |

I think the term increases his value. He'd get more money than what he's making right now if he was a UFA.

JB is slowly ridding the team of old NTC's. They become much easier to move in their last year. We'll see if he can get Edler out b4 that. But he might be here till atleast next years TDL like Hansen.

Exactly.
The way the league works now, term into your mid-thirties works against you for the most part. |

I would definitely expect it to be better then Dion's return, but who knows.
Attempting to replace/acquire top 4 Dmen in this league is dam near impossible in this day and age. So while the value may be there, the hole left in his wake may prove a bigger loss then any pick/prospect could immediately replace.
It's a zero-sum game.
All in all, its an extremely unlikely scenario. |

I don't think you can make the deal unless you get back a prospect that projects to play 20+ minutes a night down the road. |

Great.
It's decided then.
Edler for E.Kane.
Sign a stopgap D like Kulikov.
OJ gets his 9 games and hopefully sticks.
JV plays in the top 9.
Draft Patrick and Foote.
Everyone is happy.
Ruff as an assistant coach to Green.
you're welcome JB. |

Seems so. If there was a stop gap UFA the trading partner would snap them up. This trade would be a sell off. So, do Nucks have someone from within to take his minutes? If a new guy is brought in he's replacing the lower level minutes.
So the trade step would first look at: who's ready to take over Edler's minutes for the season. If not, when would they be, TDL...? Only at that point JB can pressure Edler. |
