Hainsey could be a stop Gap sign for 1.5 and trade at TDL

Seems so. If there was a stop gap UFA the trading partner would snap them up. Like past moves on D have been on a sell off. Do Nucks have someone from within to take his minutes? If a new guy is brought in he's replacing the lower level minutes.

So the trade step would first look at: who's ready to take over Edler's minutes for the season? If not, when would they be, TDL...? After that JB can pressure Edler.

- Nuck4U

Pretty much.

The biggest issue with the stop-gap approach is that the replacement player would in all likelyhood be a few tiers below Edler in quality while possibly being more expensive and at a longer term.

The UFA market nowadays is essentially barren and overpriced, if not dead all together. Add in the fact that this team is going to suck for the foreseeable future, thus dissuading free-agents, and it become an un-viable option for this team.

For instance, look at this summer's UFA D class
The prizes of Shattenkirk and Alzner won't sign here.

That leaves us with poop like:
38 year old Campbell.
35 year old Oduya.
26 year old Kulikov, who couldn't even secure top 4 roles in FLA or BUF lol.
38 year old Markov.
33 year old Daley.
30 year old Russell, the advanced stats blackhole,
and perennial bust Del-Zotto.

Annnnnd that assuming any of those bums actually hit the market.
None of those guys can play the minutes and match-ups Edler brings to this team.

Kane is a UFA in a year

I think it's worth protecting Stetcher, Hutton, Tree and OJ (and hell, even E.G) from having to play top line minutes and match-ups at this stage of their careers.

Edit: Additionally, it has been proven time and again that having a younger D-core then your assembled forward line-up is a recipe for disaster.

Protect them from what? Give em each a box of condoms?

If we somehow moved one of or both Edler and Tanev, I'd guess we would be signing a ufa dman for a year or two or more.

I'm torn a bit on value of these two, I guess much of it depends on the return and if there are really any attractive options/trading partners.

If for some reason both were moved its a blow up.
OJ & Biega would slot in lol

The fact that we had close games this year had more to do with Miller more than Edler .We had 40 shots or more against in about 15 games this year. Calgary had 82 shot attempts and 40 plus shots. This is what we are afraid to lose ?

51 loses this year how much farther i there to fall?

Garbage teams can still have solid players, but I'm all for trading Edler. I'd only move Tanev if an amazing offers comes up. He's the perfect partner for young dmen.

If we had a do-over, would we still take LE over Looch?

cue the votes for 'neither' !!

I wanted Lucic, he's proving his value now, while LE continues to sit out.

Play with McDavid or...

Ends that remote chance he came here.

The roster contains 23 players.
That's Edler plus 22 other players.

I said earlier there are many players that turn us into a crap team.

Bringing them back year after year won't solve that.

Agreed.
No one player to blame for the season (or coach for that matter).
Collective effort.

Although i don't expect a total overhaul, the only players i would not move, given their age, value, contract is:

Granlund, Bo, BB
Stetcher, Tree, OJ
Demko

i'd be willing to part with anyone else i think for the right price.

Catching up on todays blog...

Talk of wasting money on Kulikov...never
Edler 2/3 for a weak 1st...incredibly silly
Trade Sutter for thin air...just trade for sake of a trade
On n on it goes....

Sounds of desparation & panic & mass hysteria.
Ibuprofen might help me lol

i considered Goldobin, but he's not quite untouchable imo.
I like what i've seen, but wouldn't cry if he was moved.

As long as the Sedins are here I don't see Edler waiving.
If they are not extended after next year who knows?
