Honestly, I would like to move one, if not both, of Read and Raffl (even if one is taken in the ED, I'd try to move the other). I just don't see them as having a good fit anywhere in the lineup anymore. Weise has started to show some good chemistry with Couts and Schenn, while TK and Weal can be slotted in with G/Jake and Flip/Simmer.

If Lindblom makes the team out of camp, I see him lining up with Veccione and PEB to start the year (plus maybe some time on PP2). That is a huge upgrade compared to the start of last year.

- Coleman

I don't know what is going to happen in the off season but Raffl is a guy you can pretty much move up and down the lineup and can play on any line and be an effective player.

The Flyer SHOULD be a playoff team next season. The only real question mark going into the off season as of now is goalie.

There is a very real chance you see this roster next year:

Forwards:
Giroux, Voracek, Simmer, Schenn, Couts, Konecny, Weal, Lindblom, Filpula,Vecchione, Weise, Raffl, Read, PEB.

Defense: Provy, Ghost, Gudas, Morin, Hagg, Sanheim, MacD.

Goalies: Neuvy, ?

Im coining next year ' The Year of the Kids"

Bryan Bickell's wife is cute.

Stolarz is a big dude.

Jordan Weal plays like he's 6'4.

I wish they would resign Mason.

Go Blue Jackets.

Until next year.....

Positives from the year:
- Provorov looks like the real deal. He's not flashy like Ghost, he simply excels at the fundamentals of the game, which is why I don't see him having much of a sophomore slump.
- Simmonds seemed to finally achieve star status. I know people want him gone because he'll want a raise in 2 years, and while I understand it, I disagree with the idea. Dude is the on-ice leader of the team, and had a fantastic year.
- Ghost had a rough first half, but rebounded nicely int he 2nd half of the year. I think he'll have a more even year next year.
- Although it was looked at as minor, adding Filppula via trade will save them from overpaying term/years on the UFA market for forwards next year. He found a nice spot on the team and played better than I'd expected.
- Stolarz looks like, if nothing else, a very nice NHL backup. I have no idea what the organization is going to do for goalies next year, but I think he should be given the chance to earn a spot.

I would add Weal. He scored at somewhat unsustainable rates, but he looked like he fit in and we saw the benefit of adding another skilled forward into the top 9.

There are also several prospects that had fantastic seasons and will be just as important to the Flyers success.

Agree.

Some things I noticed:
- Couturier with Schenn was a nice tandem. I think you add in a creative player like Weal and you have a very good line.

- Weal reminds me of Sheary. Just seemed to show up when needed and never looked lost. I know kind of small sample but really liked his game.

- Curious what happens in goal. There are some back up guys that had very good numbers a la Cam Talbot before he was moved to Edmonton. Two names I actually like are Darling and Nilsson.

- Just looking forward to the overall offseason. Possibly having guys like lindblom, Sanderstrom and Vorobyrov coming over. What phantoms can make the jump. What moves are made to provide a better team that has depth throughout the lineup.

I agree with all of this.

I love that the Filpula trade opened this team up for better line combos.

I'd also add I like what I saw in two games from Vecchione. Our fourth line last night didn't look like the line we saw most of the season.

NHL Playoff predictions with my heart:
Nashville over Chicago
Minnesota or St. Louis, I don't care.
Calgary over Anaheim
Edmonton over San Jose
Montreal over Rags (I feel dirty)
Ottawa over Boston
Capitals over Laffs
Penguins over Blue Jackets ((frank) you, fight me)

With my head:
No way Chicago loses to Nashville unless Chicago oversleeps for 2 games and just don't show up.
Minnesota or St. Louis will be the series no one cares about.
Anaheim and Calgary will physically destroy each other, and will be the craziest series. (frank)ing West Coast start times.
I think Edmonton can take San Jose as long as Talbot plays relatively well.
The Rangers are going to destroy Montreal. Hoping for Shea Weber to smash no less than 14 Rangers' heads into the glass.
Boston and Rat Face will dismantle Ottawa.
The Capitals and Leafs will be fun, but the Leafs just don't have the defense they need.
Pittsburgh, if they can get everyone but Letang back, will take out Columbus, but Columbus will take their pounds of flesh and make the Penguins easy pickings for round 2.

With adding Vecchionne, who I would assume they resign, does that make Laughton more available in a trade? I feel the want a solid 4th line with Bellemare and Vecchionne and possibly someone like Weise, Read, Raffl or whoever is left.

I agree his goal scoring rate is likely not sustainable but I think his play on the forecheck and in creating chances is sustainable. I hope he's a classic late bloomer and picks up right where he left off next season. That would be a big boost for the Flyers.

Hmm, what changed???

Honestly, I have no idea why they didn't play VandeVelde last night. If you're gonna play him for 81 games and aren't gonna make the playoffs, let the dude play all 82.

I definitely agree. I'd say that he's the most likely to be taken in the expansion draft. I also know that he has less value in trade than he does to the team, but I just don't see him as a part of the future. If he (or Read) could be used to bump up our 2nd or one of our 3rds to get in to get a more skilled player, I'd definitely think about it.

I can wait to see Dubinsky get in Crosby's kitchen. This has the makings of the type of series the Flyers and Pens had.

Anaheim in 6
Edmonton in 5
Rags in 6
Boston in 5

Pens in 6. Torts has at least one meltdown.

He looks lazy, just the way he skates. I don't see that in him at all....What I do see is a very good 3rd center who would be more valuable if they just let him go play his role.
- landros 2

That was the EXACT reason he gave for his opinion that he is lazy. My response was, he isn't a burner, and he is always the right position so he must be doing something right with his skating.

He will, starting with the opening faceoff. The 2 most hated players by the Penguins team and fan base are Dubinsky and Hartnell. That series will most definitely devolve into a poopshow at times, and will be entertaining as hell to watch.

If Weal never plays another NHL game, we still won that trade big time.
