Ever since Filppula arrived he gave the top three centers almost identical ice time.
The 4C is almost always going to a step down, but that's OK if the 4th line isn't consistently and significantly out scored. Bellemare already looks more dangerous offensively to me just by not having to be at center. I think Vecchione or Laughton taking the 4C spot for 17-18 would be great. - Feanor
Totally noticed that last night which is why my comment about the 4th line earlier. |

Bellemare has a good wrist shot.... he just almost never seems to get a chance to use it while mucking & grinding up the middle. The snipe on Saturday must have taken him back to his days in the SHL.

Sorry to be so vague here: I have heard stuff that explains their thinking, and there is one thing from a few years that do I find bothersome, but I personally find most of it to be nonsense Milbury-type thinking. If it were my decision to make, I'd have been in favor of an extension. - bmeltzer
Am i reading to much into this?
My concern here is, are the Flyers putting personal issues ahead of talent evaluation? |

If the personal issue are creating an issue with Mason's talent or talent elsewhere on the team it has to be considered in the evaluation as a negative. |

Was watching the NHL Network the other day, and they had on their "News" crawl a report that Giroux said he didn't want to be traded. I was curious why they had to make that a point to report. - jmatchett383
lol - I saw that, too, and was like "wtf, that's 'news?'" |

Which is Milbury-type thinking, the things you've heard from management or fan theories on the situation?
Either way, I think its a mistake for the team to lose Mason at this point. He didn't have a good enough year that would demand a high dollar/long term contract. It was actually a perfect situation for the Flyers from a contract negotiation standpoint.
Hextall really doesn't think Neuvirth/Stolarz can carry the load next year, does he? That would be shocking. Do you see them bringing in a veteran guy on a bridge deal or going longer term on Bishop? I hope it wouldn't be the latter. |

NHL Network is a lot like the 24/7 cable news networks. So much airtime that they have to fill it with something. One of their on-air "talents" editorializes about something and it gets reported as news.
In this case, they are reporting the Marcus Hayes article that appeared yesterday or whenever it was.
Deadspin did a classic breakdown of this phenomenon with Jaws on ESPN a few years ago. This is how these networks operate and how they find their "news".

They kept talking about how he was a stay at home tye defender but from everything I knew about him is he was a two way type. Not going to be offensily like sanheim but not some like Nick Schultz. - J35Bacher
wasn't it Bill who said some time ago that a kid like Hagg does much better in real structure which would be the case in the NHL over even the AHL? |

Absolutely, there will much more supply then demand, I expect a good value signing for like 2 years. I still think Bernier is the play in this situation. He's been pretty good in Anaheim this year.

Even Hayes' article....you know he has to write something that generates hits on philly.com. look at how much chatter has been out there about trading Giroux. so of course an article follows. this is why I really only take a few writers articles, blogs, etc to heart and Bill being the main one. He's not about "hits". he gets the hits because he is simply great at what he does. |

Bill tweeted Weal doesn't have to pass thru waivers to return to the Phantoms, but I don't think that's correct. It's been more than 10 games/30 days since he was recalled.
https://www.capfriendly.com/waivers-faq
A player does not need to pass through waivers if the player has not been on the NHL active roster for a cumulative 30 days since last clearing waivers, and has not played in 10 or more NHL games. |

I don't understand it either. I still think he is the best available free agent goalie out there this offseason.
Something really bad must have happened between him and the organization. - MBFlyerfan
Here's a line of thinking: The guy is overpaid, never won anything, is inconsistent and apparently a gigantic pain. |

Overpaid: check
Inconsistent: Check
Zero Playoff series wins: Check
Apparently is a bad teammate: Check
Apparently is at odds with management: Check.
Let's things out of his control rattle his confidence: Check
You're right, let's sign him to a five 25 million dollar deal. Remember he had that ONE good playoff win against the Rangers three years ago. |
