Funny how everyone (well most) think we are done with rebuilding when we are about 1/2 the way there. - fastek
10 years sounds about right.
We've had either multiple 1st round picks or have drafted 2nd overall from 2012-2015 (4 drafts), then drafted 8th in '16.

The #1 PP.
Above average goaltending with stats to prove it.
Point per game average #2 (for whatever reason) center.
Top 5 5v5 goal scorer
The rest of the game is PK, matchups, and line combinations to maximize effort and results. If they can't see that coaching is a HUGE problem then they are dumb. |

hindsight 20/20 but going 1 for 4 in the 12 and 13 drafts hurt us. Its good that it turned into o'reilly but if they pan out you're probably a better team today and dont necessarily have to make that trade. |

There's an element of fire that's missing. The coach has a boring personality, which i think is part of it, and the players seem to feel trapped in a boring, unsuccessful system |

I also agree, but I'll take the win, the alternative is sucking next year for Dahlin and we just can't have another no growth season. |

capitals took a lot of heat for it at the time but the niskanen signing may be one of the best of the last decade. - Sabresfan-365
But they also signed Orpik to that atrocity the same day so it evens out |

Very nice. Germany is great. I have a picture somewhere on the computer from the top of the mountain in Baden-Baden where there's a sundial showing the direction of all the nearby towns. I put my sabres hat next to the arrow pointing to Eichel |

You landed Ristolainen, O'Reilly (Zads and Compher) Bailey, Baptiste, Petsersen, and Malone in '13. I'd call that nothing short of excellent.
2012 landed you your #4 D man and a 3/4 center in Girgs, and the other part to O'Reilly. Not to mention Ullmark |

im thinking about just the first rounders. Grigorenko and zadorov didnt work for us. neither did girgensons but hes still here.
if grigs becomes a 2c like they thought and zadorov takes the same step ristolainen did its probably a different story. |

I would too its just i always envisioned that last year or this years pick would get moved for an nhl d-man. They win the lottery they may be less inclined to move the pick. Would be very similar to the oilers lottery win in 2012. |

When is he a free agent again? I'm sure Murray would love to roll the dice. Plus he's from Amherst so "wants to be here" and stuff |

To be fair, they were moved before they had a chance to work out. I think Zadorov will be just fine. Grigorenko not so much.
Girgensons is 9th in his draft class in scoring. That's not horrible for the 14th pick.
If we got a Girgensons caliber player in '13 or '15 that would be a miss |

We win the lottery and we don't move the pick. It may not be considered a deep draft, but the first pick should land you a stud. A top pairing dman (Faulk) is the only thing you could trade it for, and I'm not sure if other teams will value the pick that much. |

its not horrible, but i think only being able to churn out one mainstay in the organization out of those four picks made things tougher. |

bob mckenzie in one of his early season draft pieces basically said the report on patrick was that of a good 2nd line centre. that was a bit of shocker |

I don't mean to split hairs, but out of those picks, they churned out their top pair D man, one of the better #2 C's in the league, and a bottom 6 center. I'd say that's exceeding expectations of 4 first rounder's, the highest being the#8 pick.
