Trade Edler before that happens - Nucker101
Having veteran players you can throw to the wolves so that kids don't have to be sacrificed while they learn isn't a bad thing.
Let Edler-Tanev be tasked with game in, game out "shutdown" duties for another year so that Tryamkin, Hutton, Stecher, etc. don't have to be forced into it. I'd rather see those guys pan out than go the way of Ladi Smid and Kris Russell, high skilled touted prospects who turned into "defence first" dmen because they got their teeth kicked in night in and night out because there weren't any vets to take those minutes. |

When Green gets the same result as WD next year people will want Benning gone. Very bold move bringing in another rookie coach - VANTEL
No coach is getting quick results from this group next year. |

Well if fans think any coach will get us in the playoffs next year they are idiots so who cares about their opinion. It's about the kids |

I think he's been impressed that Green kept the Comets afloat with crap roster they had this year. |

He runs a better system than WD + you'll have the honeymoon effect so in theory it could buy Benning 2 more years here. - Nucker101
I don't really care if Benning is fired in a few years. I just want him to load up the system through the draft for awhile. 2 years down the road? Who gives a (frank) |

Then bring in a guy like Sutter on a two year deal. He's pushing 60, could be a good teacher and mentor short term. |

I think they'd both go when the time is right. Could easily see something like Bieksa/Burrows got for Edler. "We're not gonna re-sign you." and then he opens up his NTC to whichever team gives him an extension
I think Sutter could be moved and his NTC is one of those modified-not-very-restricted ones I think. - Lindenis#1
A plausible scenario. JB may move him earlier if he believes someone on team can take his minutes.
Not on you just adding. JB hasn't asked Edler to waive. So why would Edler go to him to ask to go? He likes it here. Now that's frowned upon. Do we want to turn the Nucks back into a no go zone? |

I am fine with most coaching names being thrown out there, just want someone who does well with young players and can keep them improving during the really tough next couple of seasons. When the timing is right, bring in that fresh voice when the roster is ready for the upswing |

Who? People say this and then never provide a name's of anyone who would provide a good enough alternative for the coach to actually play. |

Nothing would surprise me. I think it is only short term anyways and the new GM will bring in his own coach. |

Probably how its going to play out unless Benning manages one of the best rebuilds and collections of young talent in the NHL over the next two years |

I don't think Edler would go to him. And next year I don't think JB goes to him. But once he can be up for an extension next summer, I don't see the harm in saying "we probably won't sign you. what if we could work you out a deal where you go somewhere else where you get an extension right now?" They did it with Bieksa and Burrows. Basically a giant component of the Kesler trade.
The only guy they did dirty was Garrison.
The Canucks being a "no go" zone only lasts as long as the team stinks. Once its good, the weather and a good team would make it attractive again. Players willingly sign in Columbus, Edmonton, Pittsburgh, Buffalo and Detroit because they've been sold on winning. |
