It seems a lot of Russians are thinking about Olympics..
https://sports.yahoo.com/...ympic-090405533--nhl.html - GERBE!!!75PTS
Doesn't mean he'll be picked for the Olympic roster. Kulikov is Russian, does that mean he's going too? 22 skaters and 3 goalies is all they're allowed, which means only 7 or 8 d-men. |

I'm pretty sure mostly all the Russians are going to try to get in on this
And I believe the KHL is telling Russian players in the NHL to come over
Looks like kulikov is not going to go over
Kulikov said it could be an option for some players but that he hasn’t thought about it.
“I don’t think it’s going to happen for me,” Kulikov said. “It’s everyone’s personal choice |

But there are only so many roster spots. It's only a real threat with truly elite Russian players. Antipin is barely an all-star even in the KHL. He's probably a very nice player but I don't think he's the next Fetisov. |

if we get pick 2
canes have pick 9
they offer us 9 and faulk for 2, do you take it? - homiedclown
Yes, and you could possibly flip 9 plus a player/prospect for another seasoned player, perhaps a scoring winger or another top4 D. |

I don't think you're giving him enough credit all the Russian fans I'm talking to have him penciled in the top four |

All this talk of possibly signing Antipin......I like the idea.
I'm going to probably get a rise out of some people here, I'd like to see them give Kulikov another shot if possible.
Thought I read some talk of him wanting to bolt out of Buffalo, I get it. But I'd like to see if there is anything they could do to keep him.
That injury just started him off on the wrong foot for the year. |

Wasn't in the 2017 KHL all-star game. I don't know if he was hurt or not. Wasn't anywhere in site for the last Olympic squad either. He'd have been 21 or 22 at the time. Fans can pencil away all they want, they aren't actually picking the team. |

Maybe 1 year 1m "maybe" it depends who's in free agency for that price also
But this team has so much work to do over the summer |

I mean i think Russian fans no more than us when it comes to their team..
The forward roster is stacked lol first line Kovalchuk - Datsyuk- Ovechkin lol and they're most likely going to play against kids lol |

I agree with you about the work for certain, however I doubt 1 mil gets it done. Maybe one year, but it has to be more and I think someone may offer him more.
Here is my reasoning, we really don't know what we had in Kulikov as we never saw it. Now, if there is a better option, I'm all about it, but I think Kulikov is good enough at least to warrant a look.
Everyone is just writing him off as a bad defenseman and off the roster, I'm not ready to conclude that yet.... |

Sure they do, but 90% of Russia's elite players are here, not in the KHL.
(BTW 90% a made up number, not quoting a statistic. Probably close to true though.)

I'm sure when the NHL decided to not participate in the Olympics, it was a policy that covered ALL NHL players. If Antipin could tell Murray, "I'll only sign with Buffalo if I can take a month off to play in the Olympics," then all UFAs this summer would do this as well. Shattenkirk, Thorton, Oshie... anyone without a contract could say I won't sign with you unless you let me play in the Olympics. It would be a huge problem and I'm sure the NHL is going to make it clear to Antipin that if he signs with Buffalo the Olympics are off the board for him. |

The only player they need is OV but I'm pretty sure more Russians will take the fines by nhl next year And go to the Olympics |

I agree with you here. He's a low risk, high reward kind of player if you can get him signed at a decent contract. Even multi-year wouldn't be a bad idea. I have a feeling that he felt a little out of the team in Buffalo last season because he missed so much time. |

It's really something that a lot of our future hinges on how good Brendan Guhle becomes. - sbroads24
Of all the things Murray has done that p!ss me off the most...
straight up IGNORING defense in his 3 drafts here is without question the worst mistake he's made
That's why Guhle is the only legit defenseman prospect we have coming
It's now at the point where we need to draft defense almost exclusively in the first 2 rounds for the next few years

Absolutely suspend him. He'll be walking out on his team in the middle of the season and putting himself at risk for injury.
I get why players want to play for their country, who wouldn't? But they are paid millions here by their employer and the NHL is a union, you just can't do whatever the hell you want. If you do, action should be taken against you.
Look at what happened to Tavares during the last Olympics, him taking a bad injury. We can't have Jack blowing out his knee while playing for team USA, or even coming back to us burnt out and being expected to make a push for the playoffs.
These players are paid millions and have their backsides kissed all the time. If their employer tells them that they need to give up the Olympics, than so be it. |
