I don'tknow about quickly but they've definitely turned. IMO it takes five to eight years to turn around a franchise. It completely depends on doing all the other things right besides drafting well. - Pacificgem
Yes, there was nothing quick about the oiler's turn around. |

Tallon is back in charge, he's anti-analytics but he's got a great eye for talent. He could probably use an assistant GM who's better with the cap and CBA than he is though. - Nucker101
Yeah I just thought to balance hockey intangibles out. Not abandon all their programs. Did Viola clear all them out? That would be a big 180. |

It is that simple.
TB need a Dman . He gets to play on a team that could win the cup . Summer all year round, low taxes . Swedes on the team . Why is that hard ? - VANTEL

but would they be where they are right now if they got a lower first, say, a Dylan Strome or a Marner or a Pavel Zacha instead of Mcdavid? |

Worst trade JB made. Hated it at the time. They should have shut him down put him on IR and sent him to rehab. Then after a long program to Comets to get back into hockey. But they didn't want to deal with that. - Nuck4U
They had already entered him into stage 2 of rehab. They made the right and ethical decision to move him from his peer group. His peer group was a bunch of dbag real estate guys ( I know his crowd well) that loved getting sh!t faced and snorting coke. He had a serious coke problem and needed a fresh start. It's shameful when people criticize he Canucks handling of him when Montreal gave him a two month leash versus two years. He needed to hit rock bottom in Montreal before rebounding. Good for kassian. But it's horse poop that he didn't need to go |

Typically teams will bring up their ahl guy, or an ahl coach from another team who has won at that level - Redmile247

Well Rowe is gone completely and he was the main analytics guy. I'm sure they'll still have an analytics group(I think every team does now), but Tallon will be calling the shots(rightfully so imo). Don't know why they risked losing him by putting him in an advisory role. |

Whether it's Benning or someone else, eventually they'll get competitive again. I just believe if Benning remains it's gonna take a lot longer. Unless they've truly decided to embrace a proper rebuild? |

Indeed. Makes sense to have a young guy with a long, successful playing career to work with youth. Plus he is a hell of a lot smarter than Willie - CanuckDon

Of course not, but that's irrelevant really. They did get him. Just like Chicago got Toews and Kane, Pittsburgh got Crosby and Malkin, Washington got Ovechkin and Backstrom, Quebec got Sakic at 15th, Detroit got Yzerman at 6th, the Islanders got Potvin 1st and Bossy at 15th, I could go on and on.

That's probably how it goes. If Green was the first choice they would have announced it. Same goes with available coaches. It might be a while until they bring someone in. Might be until end of playoffs. Probably, who they want, is not one of the fired guys and isn't available right now. - Nuck4U
no cause he's in a playoff race right now and should stay focused on that. |

Green will be given an opportunity in Van. They are looking for a coach who can work with younger players and from what I have seen or heard Green is respected. - Kaynine
they were saying theyll discuss coaching after the weekend....not that it might not just be a delay tactic keeping the press at bay |

That stage 2 is counseling but not inpatient. Yeah he was with the wrong people. He needed to be removed from that. That's what I meant by sending to rehab. Away at an inpatient clinic. He had the insurance for it. I think management wanted to get rid of MG problem and not deal with it anymore. Getting suspended and sent to rehab is hitting rock bottom. If they wanted to do an intervention. Takes work. They didn't want to do it.
Habs. They knew he wasn't clean. That stage 2 stuff has to be disclosed on trade. So, what did they care. They got rid of a turd player and got a 5th rounder. |
