Ya who wants a 20 year old top pairing dman. We have loads of those.. - mauryballstein
True, but Noah Hanifin ain't the only 20 year old projected top pairing Dman. Why give up so much? |

I could easily see Duchene being the guy that gets moved for him. Would be a great deal for both teams.
Defense take longer to get going. If we did Bo for him and then draft a center I have no problem. Bo is good but not like he is mathews or mcdavid. - mauryballstein
Defense does take longer to get going, which is why I would consider trading for him, but the Canucks have many more holes in it (particularly of the goal scoring variety) than Hanafin can fix IMO |

A 1st in a weak draft or Bo is not that much. They probably wouldnt take either anyway.

Placing a 1st overall, hopeful franchise center on a 4th line devoid of absolutely any talent is not how you develop high end players.
Moreover, for all those concerned (you) about his injury history, placing him in a bang and crash, grinding role probably is not the best route after an injury filled season lol. - Whiskey-Tango
If he earns a spot let him play. The Canucks should ALWAYS give roster spots to the most deserving candidates. That's what healthy competition is all about. If the prospect is severely undersized perhaps you consider holding him back a season. Patrick has the frame so if he earns it he should at a bare minimum get 9 games. |

People in this market really over value the teams players. Its actually hilarious.
A number 2 center whos 21 for a top pairing dman whos 20. You wouldnt make that deal?

Patrick is built for the NHL now where as Nico is more in the same boat as Marner and him playing an extra in JR didnt hurt him any. |

Patrick can definitely play in the NHL this year and so can Nico. Nico has the skill and maturity to contribute right away. Patrick has the size and well rounded game to contribute as well although I question if he will be healthy enough. - CanuckDon
According to the Asst coach of the Wheat Kings, they fully expect Nolan Patrick to be back with them next year. The way he was talking it sounded that he was pretty damn sure about it. Didn't go into details about why he felt that way.
Was just over at my cousins and I guess he was talking to Aaron Rome about it last night at their hockey pool. |

Not saying they cant, more that they shouldnt. Just saying I dont really see the point. Unless they blow your socks off. Nico could at least play the wing but with brock and unfortunately ericksson your top 2 spots are gone and dont see the point in the playing him in a 3rd line role... Maybe i am not giving him enough credit but when you compare his numbers(to previous guys drouin and ehlers) then look at his size, i wouldnt say he is a lock. - mauryballstein
For sure, no one is a lock. But Nico has average size and plays a 200 foot game. He could surprise. They need to earn a spot, unlike Virtanen/ sort of McCann. |

Hanifan has 8 career goals. -33. Over 2 years on a team that has been arguably better in all categories maybe minus goaltending. But you are wanting to give up Horvat, who has pretty much been our one and only positive in the last 2 years for him? I just don't get it. |

Bo means so much more to this franchise than just a trading piece. Bo ain't no superstar but he's our best player right now with potential to only get better.
Trading him or our lottery pick would be a lateral move at best. |

I dont want any player from this draft to start on the big club next season. Hopefully they learned from the Mccann and JV disaster.
Keep in mind that Nolan and Nico are probably similar to Dubois and Puljarvi in terms of quality and would be walking in to a tire fire type situation next year. Zero reason for them to be on the team next season. - mauryballstein
If we draft Hischier he'll be starting. |

I think he will to but it has more to do with FA getting involved again. My concerns would be that he turns in to a Gilbert Brule and not a Marner if this were to happen. I just have zero issues with letting guys develop in JR or AHL etc. |

All true. I've been saying (female doging) about folks overvaluing our players for years but this is a different case. Trade for the young dman but don't dangle the only two significant building pieces this franchise has; Bo and the lottery pick. |

It is lateral in a sense. I just am huge on building from the back out. I want this team to have a true #1(demko hopefully) then a rock solid top 4 and then 3 really good centers. |

Well he's in the business, talks to Kelly McCrimmon a lot. Who is an NHL asst GM. I don't know man. I'm just saying this is coming from a guy who knows more then us. |

You are a bold/unbold genuis. Once this gets out, hockeybuzz will either be over or awesome..... #trendsetter #educator #maverick - Beatle_john
Posters did it a lot when I started reading this site back in 2010. People didn't get banned as much back then. More warnings than punishment. But like usual it was taken advantage of and the banhammer fell.
You don't see it very much. Sometimes in the Canadiens' thread. But sometimes a statement needs to be made. A line must be drawn. |

Hanifan is 20 years old. TWENTY.
His development trajectory is eerily similar to that of Seth Jones, another ultra-young D-man that impatient & overcritical fans blew off after his first few seasons.
Look at him now, and he's still only TWENTY TWO.
(Again, not saying I would trade Horvat or a 1st for him). |
