I have no idea. Assuming they go with someone on a 1 or 2 year deal, they're probably looking at a downgrade from Mason. With Neuvirth, they also won't have a spot for a young guy to win as a backup next year. Thought they could have played things differently.
They really need better goalie play next season if they want to make the playoffs. It's hard to imagine them finding it if they only want a short term deal. - PhillySportsGuy
Did Hextall specifically say a veteran for the Flyers? Could he have meant for the organization, so next year he has a veteran with the one of Stolie/Lyon on the Phantoms that he can call up when Neuvirth gets injured? Similar to LaBarbara in the past?
I'm still in denial about the goalie situation next year and hope Hextall has a plan we're just not seeing right now. |

I don't want any forwards that might get us 15....got plenty of guys that do that. This team needs high high end forward talent which ufa cant provide us that would make sense - Just5
They don't have plenty of guys who do that, that's the problem. |

In reality, it doesn't matter because they should be rebuilding anyway. If they want to win, they need a legitimate starter. I Still think Mason may end up being the best short term option. |

Yeah, that name jumped out at me too. His isn't the only one, but there are guys out there.
http://www.spotrac.com/nh...ee-agents/goaltender/ufa/
There are about 15 forwards out there who wouldn't cost a fortune, won't command a long term and could be penciled in for 15 goals or more.
http://www.spotrac.com/nh.../free-agents/forward/ufa/ - fls13
I just don't see any real free agent signings with the forwards. They appear to want to give Vecchione every opportunity to play with the Flyers at center. I'm a big Lindblom fan and expect a jump from Konency. Now could a trade happen to an established forward. Sure, I do believe it is possible. I think it is possible Schenn or Simmonds could be traded. They won't be traded for the cheap, but if something makes sense, I think they could get moved.

The impression I'm getting from their own comments is Mason wants a long deal and Hextall doesn't. I think the sticking point will be term. |

They don't have plenty of guys who do that, that's the problem. - fls13 They have a glut of forwards next year. Assuming Weal is resigned and Lindblom comes over and they both earn top 9 spots, there are about 8 guys vying for the 4th line. I expect to see a trade or two of the surplus of forwards and hopefully somehow they can work that into improving the top 9. |

I don't care how they do it but they need more scoring from the bottom 6 forwards. I was very impressed with the difference I saw after they got Filppula. Add another solid vet who can put the puck in the net a little and this is a different team. |

If you don't have a legitimate top defense pairing, then you don't have the personnel to have a top NHL PK unit.
Gostisbehere is not a defenseman that should be on the PK. - MJL
You gotta be forward-thinking in today's NHL to gain an advantage. The PK is one aspect I feel a lot of teams are lagging in. Ghost is the perfect defenseman for the type of pk id try. |

I don't know. Mason isn't really in a position of strength considering this past season's performance.
I could see Mason lingering on the market for a while if he's expecting something long term. I don't think he'll want to come back unless he's guaranteed the starting job to start the season. Based on his comments, it didn't appear he or Neuvrith were happy with their usage.
Rav mentioned Darling as an option. I feel like some team may offer him a pretty good deal though. |

I believe moving Bellemare to wing and not resigning VDV is a step in the right direction on the 4th line. I like the idea of Wiese on the 4th line, who can slide up if needed.

Quick question. Someone posted a link to Oskar Lindblom about being good every shift and I can't find it now. Can anyone repost it? |

Phantoms clinched and they are still playing ECHL Lamarche over Friedman, who has yet to play a game and he signed like 3 weeks ago. It's beyond absurd. They're losing 4-1 too. |

If Wiese can keep it going, he can play in the top 9 for all I care. To me, the issue is their Top 6 is topped out in what you can expect from them numbers wise so the only way to boost scoring is more scoring depth. You can only dress 12 forwards.

You might be right. I have a long track record of underestimating what UFAs can get on the market. The key is, the Flyers only need one. Cap wise, I'd expect an approximate wash from Mason's hit this year. |

I believe if Wiese is on the 4th line, then I'm feeling good about the top 9. I really expect Konency to take a step forward next season. He'll continue to get stronger and the offensive skill level is there.

I know that's what they're hoping for and Lindblom too, but it may not happen. Koneckny COULD have a sophomore slump. On top of all that, they didn't have a great year but stayed relatively healthy. I'd like to see a vet forward added. |
