I don't recall it. The only mention of Weal that I remember is Hexy saying once we added him and Filp to the top 9 our top 9 was much better all together and that it added necessary depth for us moving forward. Maybe even said he's satisfied with that top 9 on paper? |

Anderson is not quite that solid #1 guy. He Seems to run hot or cold and never really gets in a long hot streak. He should have that one last night. I hate the Leafs so it didn't bother me, but as you said they will be a team to contend with over the next long while. They will definitely add D help this year. I hope our GM will also add some help up front. I would not be surprised if a core move is made. One playoff round victory in 6 years... Time for a change - 3flyerkids
Yup. We are loaded with young, quality D and top notch D prospects; Toronto is loaded with young, quality forwards and top notch forward prospects. You would think we could swap some of our chocolate for some of their peanut butter.

Not yesterday, but in his presser right after the last game, Hak talked about how pleased he was with Weal, both his game and in his having a great attitude. He certainly made it sound that a job was his to lose going into camp this fall.

Weal has put up numbers at every level he has played up to the NHL. This time he got a legit shot and started putting up numbers there too. Lets hope the trend continues.

It's going to be real interesting how Hextall handles the prospects. I think there is a strong chance that all 3 of Hagg, Sanheim, and Myers make the team out of camp. Morin could be on the outside. Sanheim doesn't need more than one year of AHL time...he looks good.
I would not hesistate to have all 3 up and starting so your 7 are Gudas, Ghost, Provorov, Hagg, Sanheim, Myers and keep Manning as the 7 to push the kids.
Gudas...Ghost is a vet now. Provorov by all accounts is not your typical 2nd year player and by the way Hexy was talking has basically earned vet status. These should be your best 6 dmen that you have....play them. |

Honestly, looking at pure talent and what they bring to the table, I could see all 4 kids having a shot, the problem is room. Provorov, Gudas, and Ghost are locks, which only leaves 3 spots. As good as Myers is, he is still filling out to some degree, so I think, barring him outperforming everyone at camp, he starts the season at LHV. I also think that there is a good chance that Sanheim too at least starts the season in the AHL. My guess is that the opening day D group is:
Provorov-Gudas
Morin-Ghost
AMac-Hagg
Manning
This gets AMac off the top pair (thankfully) and sets up his possibly coming out of the lineup at some point. If Sanheim and/or Myers continue to progress and are obviously ready, there are a couple of things that can happen to make room. They could move AMac with salary retained, they could trade Manning and make AMac the 7th D, they could waive Manning or they could waive AMac. Either way, I think there is a good chance that by mid season, we'll see something like:
Provorov-Gudas
Morin-Ghost
Hagg paired with either Sanheim or Myers
AMac or Manning as the 7th
Of course, all of this could fly right out the window if a Dman is moved during the off season or due to injuries.

Good games last night. Tough goal for Anderson to give up there. It was a seeing eye shot though. I'm actually rooting for the Leafs in that series.
Also Brian Boucher is an excellent analyst. |

I just think Myers is a better player than Morin now and forever. I kinda expect to be disappointed when Sanheim or Myers get sent down after clearly showing they belong |

Myers leaped this year....he looked fantastic in the WJrs before he went down. I don't think it's a stretch to think he may be at the front of the line. Hopefully all these kids continue to advance. For what it's worth I thought Morin looked great in his only game up. I wonder if he's one of those guys who projects better in the NHL over the AHL?? |

They are different players.
And yes Morin might not have the sexy skills like Gostisbehere, Sanheim or Myers but he does bring something those other guys like with a physicality.
Once Gudas is gone there are no thumpers. And call me old school but I still like having a guy like Morin, who isn't Mike rathje, that I can throw out there and maybe have some forwards keep their heads up. |

Better than Morin right now? Maybe, maybe not. It's hard to judge when one is playing against grown men in a very good pro league and the other is playing against kids. I think Morin brings something to the table that no other Flyer Dman or prospect, even Gudas, brings. He is a physical force with good wheels and a ridiculous reach, and I think he has potential dominant on the PK and extremely effective in a shutdown role. |

Maybe, maybe not. At one point, this was a guy who was waived and sent down. Yeah, I know it was mainly due to cap reasons, but let's face it, if he was that valuable in the coaching staff's eyes, they would have found a way to keep him on the roster and in the lineup. Provorov has proven, at least to me, that if a kid earns a prime spot, he will get that spot. Now it's up to Morin, Hagg, Sanheim and Myers to earn theirs. Like I said before, the only locks to be in our top 6 all season, IMO, are Provorov, Gudas and Ghost.

We are often very negative around here, so here is something positive to brighten your day. The Flyers currently have 2 quality, home grown Dmen on the roster (Provorov & Ghost) and 4 D prospects of whom I expect all to become at least solid, and quite possibly top flight, NHL players (Morin, Hagg, Sanheim and Myers). In my memory, I cannot ever remember this ever being so, and I have been following this team since the mid 70s.
This is pretty (frank)ing awesome!

So who is Hexy going to sign as the third goalie? I don't see Mason returning under any circumstances. Bernier, Darling, or Nielsson makes the most sense. I think he takes a run at Darling. From a physical stature standpoint, Darling and Stolarz are similar. Darling has shown an ability to play in a tandem or even a lesser role. The guy has really good stats, granted he is playing on a juggernaut team so there is a concern there.
I fully expect Morin and Hagg to make it out of camp. Two full years in the AHL, if they can't make it out of camp they are getting close to Mark Alt territory- #8 dman in an organization. |

If you look at kids in the system, even the forwards, almost all of them had solid to very good seasons. When has that ever happened.

Ghost, Provorov and Gudas are all 27 (gudas will be by the start of the season) or less. Looks like Hagg and Morin will have every opportunity to make the team out of camp. Seems like Sanheim is knocking on the door and by all accounts most "experts" feel Myers is the real deal. thats 7 dmen right there not counting Manning as a 7. this is assuming at some point they will be able to move Amac retaining salary. Also doesn't count other defensive prospects who perhaps develop. does seem like something has to give at some point. |

Yup, the answer would be never. If you look at what I consider the Flyers top 8 prospects to be, in no particular order:
Myers
Morin
Sanheim
Hagg
Sandstrom
Hart
Rubtsov
Lindblom
I can't see any of the above not being NHL players and all have potential to be above average and many could turn out to be star quality players. I can't remember any time that they've been this loaded when it comes to quality prospects. And that's not even factoring in guys like Stolarz, Lyon, Friedman, Marody, Laberge, Leier, NAK, Vorobyev, Allison, Kase and quite a few others. What Hextall has done over the last few years when it comes to rebuilding the prospect pool is nothing short of remarkable. |

I very much agree with this. I haven't been a fan as long as some of you, however it is exciting not only getting to watch young guys play with the big team and hear about other young guys in the minors.
As for the people saying Myers is better than Morin so he should make the team ahead of him. Another side of it is that Myers hasnt played in the AHL and maybe by giving him that time down there he becomes A LOT better than Morin and not just a little. Like always you never know if his development will be stunted by playing in the NHL so what the heck do I know.
