i'd never heard that rumor...if anything, i'd think just the opposite, a deal in place to keep him in buffalo because they put a lot of time and effort into developing him

I'm sure when the NHL decided to not participate in the Olympics, it was a policy that covered ALL NHL players. If Antipin could tell Murray, "I'll only sign with Buffalo if I can take a month off to play in the Olympics," then all UFAs this summer would do this as well. Shattenkirk, Thorton, Oshie... anyone without a contract could say I won't sign with you unless you let me play in the Olympics. It would be a huge problem and I'm sure the NHL is going to make it clear to Antipin that if he signs with Buffalo the Olympics are off the board for him.

Ovechkin is going to throw a huge wrench into the works. He's reiterated that he's going no matter what, and didn't soften after the NHL decided not to go.

you are correct, gmtm did take rusty klesla off of his hands when he was with Washington and murray indicated that they'd talked about that...but murray called Ullmark "tremendous" at the year-end presser then went on to say that Ullmark's taken the same track as "many, many, many starting goaltenders have"

There was a post in the last blog about bringing back Kulikov...
Reasoning made sense, his season was derailed by that injury & we didn't ever get to see the "real" version of him

But where does he fit?
Right now, this is what we have

1st pair: Ristolainen
2nd pair: McCabe
3rd pair: Bogosian, Gorges, Guhle, (Antipin)
Reserves: Faulk

Murray better pull off a trade for at least 1 top4 defenseman
So let's say we have this...

McCabe-Ristolainen
Antipin-(trade)
Gorges-Bogosian
Faulk
-Guhle starts in minors (most would be pissed if this happens)

So where do u put Kulikov?
Even if we get rid or Gorges or Bogosian...
wouldn't Guhle most likely get that spot?

Only way we fit Kulikov imo,
Is if we move Gorges AND Bogosian...
and that seems very unlikely to me

Columbus was just all over them in the first I think it was 16 -2 in shots
Then Columbus just let them take over the game in the second

But if they keep up that kind of offense it might make up for their defensive struggles

The Caps are so deep, & should have a pretty easy first round
The Pens are gonna have a tough series against C-bus, and are without their top defenseman for the duration of the playoffs
So even if they can get by C-bus & the Caps,
they might be so whipped that they lose in the ECF
And almost certainly won't have enough to beat whoever comes out of the West with how banged up they already are & the tough series they'll be playing

I think they could be right back in it next year though
Some health, & a less deep Caps team will help their cause a lot

pretty sure Columbus learned something about that game...probably expended so much energy in the first that they couldn't handle what pit threw at them later in the game...jackets are young, fast, talented and pretty deep...game-2 should be interesting
