I saw McNabb and two 2nds for LA's 4th round pick. I figured, okay... I guess I'll trust Murray because he's a really good scouting GM, and even though this trade looks ridiculous, what the hell do I know...
So, far my gut instinct was right. - sskkoo1
the kings had just won their second cup in three seasons...they played a heavy game...murray spent time in the western conference when he was with Anaheim...I believe he was using the kings as a template when he first came to buffalo, but that has changed |

He wants a fast posesssion team.
Moulson, Franson, Gorges, Fasching, drafts Reinhart.

he was slacking on the 5-on-3...was outraced to a puck, it went down the ice and they lost time on that pp |

dude...
Moulson and gorges were transition vets...Fasching was a heavy, reinhart was one of three players considered to be at the top of that draft class...
Franson....Franson....is incredibly slow |

I agree with what you're saying. Still, if that trade would happen now... would you trade both of our second round picks this year and lets say Borgen for someone's 4th round pick from last year and a 3rd rounder you know will be nothing more than a 4th line grinder? I sure as hell wouldn't. |

Of course not, but that's the whole point, you don't know. Maybe he didn't like what he saw with McNabb, he hasn't exactly blown the doors off in LA. I still think that's his worst trade so far, but Fasching is still only 21. Which is crazy. |

Moulson and Gorges had 5 and 4 years left on their deals respectively for a total of 9 million. Those weren't transitional.
The point is, Murray has had no real vision from day 1, and it's showing in a bad way.
Kyle Okposo isn't fast either. Ryan O'Reilly won't win many races. |

Neither will Toews.
Speed isn't the "be all, end all" of a good hockey player. |

You know who is fast? Connor McDavid.
Also, Taylor Hall. You guys should try and swindle him out of NJ. He and Jackie boy would be sick together! |

Toews is a fine skater.
And Chicago and Pitt have been two of the faster teams in the last decade and have 5 cups. |

Sure, you never truly know how players will turn out, but you still have to be realistic. Fasching was a 4th rounder for a reason (you can blame it on injury if you want, but nobody slips to the 4th round because of an injury) and two 2nds and McNabb regardless of his up and down career so far, could have brought back a lot better.
Now, I'm not rooting against Fasching, I want him to be good. I'm just simply stating that when the trade happened it left me scratching my head for what we sent to LA. |

Moulson was a veteran and former three-time 30-goal scorer who wanted (key word here) to play in buffalo...was the deal for too much and too long, in hindsight, yes...but murray needed to fill a roster, wanted vets to guide the youngins and needed to spend...
gorges had four years left on his contract when murray traded for him...he was a veteran defenseman who accepted a trade to buffalo and was looked to as another leader to help the team transition from the tank years |

I think he started out thinking he'd build more of a western conference style team, something like the kings...if anything, his timing was off |

And so is ROR. And Okposo is far from slow as well. We're not a fast team because the defense can't make an outlet pass. The puck is faster than any player. Chicago and Pittsburgh are fast because they have good defense that can make nice passes to players in stride. |

The problem is his vision was to build the Kings just as the trend was switching away from that style and to the speed speed speed.
I would understand if he was criticized for getting caught moving in the one direction and having to switch courses after starting toward (potentially) an outdated model.
But it isn't that he didn't have vision - he just changed it. |
