He played with Hyman all season and with two rookies splitting time in Brown and Nylander. He would of gotten plenty more assists with a scorer.
Either way you are using assists as an argument? That's comical. Considering secondary assists are pitty points. Let's forget all the records he broke and that he got 40 goals. Some players got more assists!
Mathews had more primary assists than Risto and Laine.

Ha Ha. It was also mentioned during the last game against the Leafs that there is friction between Eichel and some teammates. I can see that happening if it's true about calling out teammates. |

what is it you think you're going to accomplish here? If you stomp your feet enough, gripe and cry endlessly, we'll eventually cave and say Matthews is generational?
NOBODY here thinks Matthews is generational, and that's because Matthews simple is not a generational talent after 1 decent season. No other teams' fans on this website think he's generational, either, because he's not. Period. Only Leaf fans are too blind to see that. Larkin had a good rookie campaign, is he generational? How about Ghostbishere?
You guys are here all the time talking poop about our team and then demanding we praise to King Matthews in the same post. It's gotten really old.

Nobody's happy when you only get 78 points. I think you, of all people(Leafs fans) should understand that. Given how bad you've been for 20 years. |

Anyways I'm out
It's a good thing we finally hate eachother again this rivalry was getting really boring the last 5-6 years. It was non existent. I honestly hope you guys are good next year.(which I think you will) It would be a fun times for both sides.
Anyways I hope I didn't hurt anyone's feelings too much.
Enjoy your easter weekend you filthy buffaslug fans.

been many reports, and I tend to believe there's friction.....
it starts with eichel not being enthralled with some of what bylsma has them doing, most notably parking the bus with the lead...
robin lehner called out his team mates for not following the gameplan, most notably in the second period when they sucked in that stanza
then it became kind of a vet vs. youngin thing with the older players wondering why the younger players weren't all-in, all the time...
it's not an all out mutiny by any stretch...jack has concerns and i'm sure he mentioned them to murray at his exit interview |

My point is no second year player should be calling out veteran players. There's better players in the league who would never do that. |

Good points. I'm not here to troll. I like your blogs. I don't spend much time in the Leafs thread because it gets a thousand hits. It doesn't need me. Cheers |

Much like Martha and the Vandellas, I really have nowhere to run along to. Anyway, assists are points, too. Matthews had 29; that’s not generational in any way shape or form. That’s not elite. Heck, that’s not even really good. If only goals are used as a measure of generational-ism, then would you consider Brett Hull, Dave Andreychuk, Tim Kerr, Mike Gartner, Marcel Dionne and Phil Esposito generational? All were very good to Hall of Fame players. Generational? Don’t know about that.
You’re the one on here trolling and going on and on that Matthews is “generational”. He is not. He is very good, maybe even great. Let’s give it a few years before we talk about him in the same way as Gretzky, Lemieux, and Orr. For all you know, he could be the next Sylvain Turgeon (you should leave your basement, go upstairs and ask your dad who that is).
And what major record(s), beside Leafs records, did he break, other than the record for “Most annoying, obnoxious, delusional and failed parade-planning fans”?
There are a lot of great Leafs fans. Please act like one of them. Happy Easter. |

Except he didn't single anyone out, and every player says "we need to be better" that's all Eichel has ever said. |

He was in the Pro set card for Turgeon. P.Kane was sitting on his dad's lap up against the glass, so yeah, I think we're on the same page. |

I pretty much agree with you. In my mind we are now seeing the third generational player ever...McDavid of course. Orr was the first and then Gretzky. Before that I don't know because I'm not that old. Cheers |

Just looked up the card/picture - I did not know that!
But Turgeon also scored 40 in his rookie year as a 19 year old (he was actually younger than Matthews) after being selected 2nd overall. He only had an ok career after that. I don't think this will happen to Matthews but you never know ...
(drops on knees and prays for this to happen to Matthews so that we don't have to listen to Leaf fans like Santo for the next 15 years). |
