Austin Matthews quote:
Kids these days. Having mommy come clean up after you. I picture Gerbe's mom having to do this. - adambuffalo
It's just as much "Parents these days" as it is "kids these days". Some of them just can't help themselves. It's some sort of coping mechanism when their baby is all grown up and out of the house. |

You are funny. I am engaging in a `war of words`with a real life Buffalo Sabres fan. True to form, the Sabres fan dropped the classic `parent basement`shot. How original. I do not use the term generational. I thought I had expressed that assertion. All I am saying is the Leafs are being run by successful, experienced, highly admired people in the hockey community. This has lead to short term success and likely long term success. No Stanley Cups promised. No Matthews is god proclamations. Nothing. Those are your bitter words
On the other hand, the Sabres are run by a guy with little experience and a coach who many consider to be fraudulent. Their record is what it is. They will both be out of work within a year. Garbage in, garbage out
Again, as a Sabres fan, you have every right to be upset. But do not take your anger out on TML or its fanbase. - BernardShakey
You haven't won anything in over 50 years, and even when you did there was only 6 teams in the league. You haven't been to the playoffs in over 10 years. So lets stop talking about how good your organization is run. You're cocky and smug and come into our board with an attitude of superiority and then get your panties in a bunch when you can't get Sabres fans to agree with your delusions of grandeur.
Your Leafs will more than likely be swept, and then the dream will be over. You are the 2013-14 Colorado Avalanche, see you in the basement next year. |

That's false. They made the playoffs in 2013.
They did blow a 4-1 lead in Game 7 to Boston, however. |

Just a thought here, if you're going to go and (define words) for people don't butcher one yourself in the same thought.
Sorry, i was just back reading and found myself talking to my iPad after this one, and it had nothing to do with the take. - TheHank
Thank You sir, I ACCEPT your correction, I dropped the ball on that one, I will try to be better next time. |

Some would argue Mario was better than Wayne but we will never know for sure because of the herpes caused cancer he had.
Seriously, look it up.
He would have at the very least, IMO, broken the all-time goal record if he didn't miss so many games and 3 full seasons due to injury, not to mention the only truly elite player he ever played with was Jagr (well, Crosby but he hardly even played those seasons).
I honestly think he would have hit at least 900, possibly even 1,000 goals if he had the health of Gretzky and the talent surrounding him that Gretzky had in his Edmonton days. - BeadyEyedDouche
Paul Coffey and Ron Francis might beg to differ of the matter of elite players who played with Mario. Not to mention Recchi, Joe Mullen, Larry Murphy, Kevin Stevens, Rick Tocchet, Rob Brown, Petr Nedved, Tomas Sandstrom even Zubov and Robitaille. But I guess only Gretzky benefited from playing with good players.

To give you some credit, it's been 13 years since they won a playoff series.
Edit:
They do have the longest streak in the NHL without making it to the Finals. |

That among many others.
I mean come on, it's like saying that you still think Eichel might be superior to McDavid. |

Isn't he now employed/contracted directly by the team in some capacity now? |

yeah, I get that...it's been two years with both in the league and draisaitl blew past reinhart this season...tough to defend picking sam...
then again it's still only two years (or three in draisaitl's case) into their careers |

I mean, I like following the guy because he gives info on our prospects, but that's like Hurricanes fans saying they'd rather have Hanifin over Werenski still. Sometimes the evidence is overwhelming |

I just read it. I took his tweet to more mean that he still would have picked Reinhart over Draisaitl at the time given the two players' body of work up to that point. That being said, Draisaitl is the better player.
However, the one point people make that always irritates me is the "he did or didn't play with McDavid". Even if he didn't play with him all the time, he benefited from McDavid being on the roster. Players gameplan for Connor McDavid. Either you are going to benefit from a guy who makes you that much better, or you are going to benefit from weaker matchups because opponents are focusing Connor McDavid. I said the same thing about both Moulson and Okposo on the Island. John Tavares had the exact same effect, whether or not either player was actually on his line or not. Reinhart will always benefit from Jack Eichel in that regard as well. |

Well, he did play with McDavid a lot this year, but he did most of his scoring while McDavid was hurt last year |

And that's fine. However, it was still a relatively small sample size all things considered. The thing about Draisaitl is this, though. You don't need that sample. Both Reinhart and Draisaitl are playing with elite talents. Draisaitl is making much more out of his situation that Reinhart is. |

sure does look that way...
then again, I don't think there was a single scouting service or pundit who had werenski over hanifin...
and back in 2014 it was a three-horse race for top spot in the draft between Ekblad, reinhart and Bennett...
props to Edmonton for picking draisaitl over bennett |

Agreed, i think the big differences are one had looked like a franchise player away from McDavid, and the other couldn't carry a line and had like 10 points in 21 games while Eichel was hurt. |

Baker said they were "really, really high on Draisaitl".
Maybe Bennett's bad shoulder made him lower on all 3 teams board.
I don't blame Murray for picking Reinhart, or the Sabres in general. All 3 were close.
Just sick of being a bridesmaid in all of these drafts. I want one of ours to turn out to be the best player |
