No, you commented on my comment regarding if Matthews was generational or not. but ok - Santo_44
"If you can't tell the difference between McDavid and Matthews/Eichel, I am not sure you actually know what your watching."
Not sure I said anything generational in that statement but maybe I am wrong. In other posts that I have made I said McDavid and Crosby were generational but only time would tell. I don't put Matthews or Eichel in their category but that is just my opinion. |

Pretty sure he also said he needed to be better, so I guess its his. - BigStew
Eichel will be a superstar for sure but calling out his team won't end well for him. The media lives for that stuff. If Matthews did that he'd have to answer to Lou and there would be consequences and an apology from him.
But it sounds like Jack is making demands of Murray and Murray is buckling. I don't get it. He's not McDavid. |

Whether Jack made those statements or not I don't think Murray was just going to sit there and not try and develop a team and coaching staff that would allow Eichel to be the best he can be, he is our best player.
If I/we can see the problems this team has I am pretty sure Murray can as well. Do I love what Eichel said publicly, not particularly but I do understand why he did it. |

That would be a generational talent |

It's not Eichel's place to be making any demands, but he is right in that Murray needs to do something. This defense needs to be addressed this off-season, Gorges and Bogo need to go. I would be fine with Murray telling Eichel that he will do something with the defense, but Jack should step up and lead his offense. Eichel, Kane, Reinhart, ROR, Okposo, Ennis... that should be enough fire power to at least make some noise next season given a better defense. Eichel will be in year three, time to lead by example. |

Not sure I entirely agree but maybe "demands" aren't the right word but if GMs didn't want input on the direction of their teams from players, they wouldn't hold year end discussions with their players. |

If he is generational what is Connor McDavid just answer me that question - GERBE!!!75PTS
A generational....
Why in the (frank) can there not be more than one generational type players? If you ask me the term is ridiculous.
There has been handfuls of genratinal players in the NHL every decade. |

No, I agree that GMs need open lines of communication with their players. I just don't agree with (if true) Jack telling Murray what he needs to make happen. Jack is in no place to make demands, add his input sure, but not try to hold managements feet to the fire. Prove yourself a leader on the ice first, and then he may gain some leverage behind the scenes. |

The term itself implies "Once in a generation" or once every twenty years or so. It is thrown around too much however and should really be used after the fact, that is, after a players body of work can be scrutinized. For me, I would define the generational talents as: Orr, Gretzky, Lemieux, and I would probably now add Crosby. McDavid has the potential, but way to soon to put him in this club. Everyone else (Stamkos, Tavares, Eichel, Matthews, Laine, etc...) is just a star player in the league. |

You could make an argument Malkin is generational. He's in Crosby's league.
And hmmm well........did those guys break records in their first years ? Thornton and Stmakos didn't even break 50 points.
He scored 40 (frank)ing goals as a rookie. That poop is generational. Wether you like it or not
Matthews has simply done things I'm his first season that never has happened. Or at the very least hasn't happen in generations. It's facts man. Use them |

So it's still too early to make a call on McDavid being "generational" but you feel you can do so for Matthews? |

I'm not calling McDavid generational, but he has the best shot at it along with Crosby, it seems. I'm also not calling Matthews, Eichel, Laine, Stamkos, Tavares, Malking, or even Ovi generational, either. They are star players, franchise players, but not in the same category as Lemieux, Gretzky, or Orr.
However, in 5-10 years from now if McDavid, Mathews, or anyone else can put together consistent 100pt seasons and at least 2-3 cups, and has done things consistently that other players (even star players) can't do, then I'll consider putting a generational tag on the guy.
Matthews, Eichel, Laine, and the rest of the league's stars are just not generational, and all the crying in the world will not convince people of such. |

You have to adjust for era.
Malkin has had 1 year total of under a PPG, and is top 20 all time in PPG.
Ovechkin is hands down best goal scorer this era
Those two IMO are generational |

Matthews would not have even had 30 if he swapped spots with Eichel this past season and played in bylsma's system. |

Ppl get way too wrapped up in who's better than who
And especially labeling guys...
generational, elite... who cares?
Jack is really good. So is McDavid. So is Matthews.
Ppl also have different definitions of these terms,
So to even discuss it seems kinda pointless |

For the love of god this has to be sarcasm?
Let me guess, Eichel would have had 100 points in 60 games away from Bylsma? |
