Both Patrick and Nico have a much higher ceiling than Bo. Patrick had over 100 points in his D-1 season. Horvat barely exceeded PPG in his draft year - CanuckDon
I'm not going to lie, looking at junior stats means really (frank) all to me most of the time. Just look at the Q every year. Sam Steel had more points this season then Marner ever did. Is Sam Steel going to be better then Marner? It's unlikely. Mark Schiefele had 75 in 66 in his draft year. He just had an 82 point season. |

I can somewhat agree with that. Although I think Patrick and Nico are smarter than Yakupov so I think the top 2 is safer. Guarantee you that Canucks fans woulda been screaming for Griffin Reinhart in that draft
That draft was pathetic after the top 20 or so though, hopefully this one has a better 2nd round for the Canucks sake. - Nucker101
I look at the whole draft, One player in Yak. Fail for Nail was literally what they called it, a fail. Galchenyuk is a good player but he's currently playing 4th line. Talk about trading him. He's the highest scoring player in that draft. Morgan Rielly and Trouba are definitely strong defensemen but I don't think anyone is classifying them as #1 in the same category as Doughty, Hedman, Keith, Weber. |

Ok...how about Patrick winning the WHL playoff MVP IN HIS d-1 season or Nico's dominant performance in the WJC? They are better prospects than Horvat ever was and it's not close |

Yeah, I use to just base rankings off of point totals, but you have to look at a few things:
How strong are the player's linemates/team?
How strong is the league he's playing in?
How many minutes is he getting?
How well will that prospect's skill set translate into pro hockey?
How much room for physical growth is there? If the player is already physically developed than there's less untapped upside, but at the same time you don't want to draft some skinny kid who just can't fill out and get strong enough without sacrificing speed.
You can't just go of off point totals alone, just look at all the AHL stars that can't crack NHL rosters.
That said I agree with Don, Patrick and Nico are both better prospects than Bo used to be back when he was drafted. But Bo's skating development was huge for him, the fact he improved that significantly while still keeping his weight/strength was amazing and rare. |

You have to take in everything. CHL is a 2 line teams basically. Mainly 1 PP unit. Top line is playing 25 minutes a night pretty much. Goaltenders suck compared to NHL ones.
Nico is a much different prospect then Bo. Different styles.
Virtanen was a better PPG then Bo was.
Neither Nico or Patrick are really asked to play defence and shut down the other teams top lines. |

If you guys want some grit/skill, Gadjovic would be a nice pick with the early 2nd round pick if he's still there. The kind of guy who opposing fans hate to play against. |

I'm not saying they will be better players than bo. I'm just stating that at the same point they are superior prospects |

I hope they get the 3rd pick so the first two guys are off the board, I have a feeling some of the other guys will end up being better NHL players in the long-run.
The trick is for our knucklehead GM to actually pick one of those players. - LeftCoaster
If we get the third it's liljegren....not entirely convinced that's not his number one choice anyway. |

I watched the u18 game Swe vs Rus. Liljegren was nothing like people had made him out to be. If it was just a bad game for him, it must be one of his worst ever. |

Yeah well so have many many others. I don't think Bo will ever put up more then 65 points in a season but he's also going to be great defensively.
I always used Ryan Johansen or Joe Thornton to describe Patrick's game. I think Sam Reinhart would be also a real good comparison to compare to Patrick. |

I think people believe he can be better. If he fell to 8-12 I think that would be about right. Taken any earlier, someone has to see something that others haven't. |

I felt 33 was to early for him and we might be able to get another center or solid D there instead. You think he would be around with the columbus pick? I dont know much about him other than he is kind of a bigger marchand although is skating an issue? |

Nope, top 20 are average 1st rounders than unfortunately I believe that it drops off to fodder and wasted contracts.
In my opinion anyways. If we trade for picks I hope we bundle them to grab a pick between 15 and 20, maybe 21 or so if a gm has brain fart.
I feel the vast majority of 2nd rounders would be 5 or 6 round pucks in a good year.
