Albatross contracts for aging players might be a good place to start looking. |

I also really like last years draft. I also like Karabacek, there's something about this kid that I wouldn't write off as of yet, he may surprise people still. Cornel, meh... - sskkoo1
Well we've got them now,
So I'm hopeful they'll work out
I don't really see it
But with Karabacek in particular,
I have heard a few on here say he looked good in Rochester
Idk that he'll ever be much of a scorer...
but maybe he can find a role as a bottom 6 PK guy?
I'd be happy with that
Cornel seems like the kind of player who could be a 3rd liner if he can score a bit, or maybe just a good AHLer |

I'm curious to see what they do with the expansion draft
They have issues at forward AND defense |

I named 3 clear cases that it was
4 if u count Asplund
Not like I'm saying Fleury over Sam or anything
But even if he just did the 2 in 2014 2nd...
don't ya think we'd all feel a lot better about our defensive depth?
and they'd be nice trade pieces as well
We all know it's harder to trade for good defensemen
Hall for Larson is kind of an extreme example,
But it makes my point
The AVs are (supposedly) having trouble getting a quality defenseman for either Duchene or Landeskog
It'll be interesting to me to see how that unfolds as well - jdfitz77
News to me, not what some of the beat writers covering the team have mentioned.
The prime prospects like Sergechev, McAvoy have been swing and misses but Carolina and Hanifin have been talked about. So thats what I'm hoping for |

I say that bc they've apparently been on the block for a while now & a trade hasn't happened
Not that it won't eventually...
but to this point, no one has been willing to give up the defenseman you've been wanting
Carolina looks like the perfect trade partner for u guys
Who would u rather give up for Hanafin,
Duchene or Landy? |

They were never on the block, never trying to trade them from what they know. Its listening to offers. Sakic mentioned he never called one team about his guys but he would listen to what other teams were offering. Nothing was ever going to happen mid season. You have unknown lottery picks, expansion draft, cap not determined. It was always going to happen in the summer.
Landeskog won't be going anywhere, he seemed to be the most determined to play through this and he looked really good to end the season, especially once he was playing with Jost and Compher.
Duchene is a goner, love the guy but he looks broken from this process. He needs a fresh start and to win somewhere else. With how good Jost and Compher look, C depth looks pretty good right now so moving Dutch for a Dman is the best fit |

On the block, listening to offers, whatever...
I just meant they haven't been able to trade either for the quality defenseman they were looking for
That's kinda what I thought with Duchene
How'd Compher look for u guys?
Out of all the pieces we moved,
he was the one guy who I thought we'd end up missing
Loved what I saw from him on Michigan

Rough year for him bc of that damn injury
I'm sure he can get back on track next season though
He could be a guy teams ask for in a trade since he won't have to be protected in the expansion draft |

Well, then I guess we better move on from them. Casey Fitzgerald was outstanding in the World Juniors for USA, Borgen also played pretty well in The WJ's the year before.
The only issue with the 3 mentioned is they are all college players and apparently they don't have to sign with the team that drafted them anymore. Time to change that rule. Alex was 18 for most of this year, he struggled to find his way, but I bet he learned a lot about his game to know what he needs to do to get better. Cornel and Karabacek just finished their rookie seasons, Maybe we should let players develop their game before we call them flops or bad choices. - macman9
The main reason it's becoming that way is that players are done with Junior before they're developed, so they can't get all high and mighty because they just aren't there yet, but give it another 2 years like college players get and you see more of what they are. That gives them more leverage.
Really the only thing I can think of to do would be to say to the college players that don't want to sign with the team that drafted them is that they have to sit a year, can't play pro hockey anywhere, no going to Europe, after they've used up their eligibility before they're allowed to be a UFA, I bet that would cut down on the vast majority of this bullpoop. |

The teams talking at the deadline about Duchene were Habs, Sens, Islanders, Jackets, and Carolina. They showed the most interest and apparently some had some good pieces already talked about. Sens had a from work of Colin White, 2017 1st, Ceci and another piece. I expect them all to be back talking at the draft.
I love love compher, hes a fun player to watch, he reminds me exactly like Drury (sorry boys but Drury was my boy first )...especially the way he skates. Wont be as good as Drury point wise but he sure does play like him |

Nothing personal, but you have posted this in each of the last 5+ blogs.

Plus it's a lot harder drafting an 18 year old (projecting what he'll turn into) than looking back at drafts 2-3 years ago and cherry picking players we should have picked. I liked sergachev a lot and would have been thrilled if we picked him, but to say chychrun would have been a good pick at #8 is ridiculous. First of all, he lasted to 16, secondly he was personal friends with the Pegulas. If he was worthy of #8, we would have taken him.
We should focus more on the future (and our 5 picks in the first 3 rounds + hopefully being lottery lucky) than doing this stupid retrospective re-drafting. Yeah I get it, the Bills were stupid for not drafting Brady too...... |

Not what I was doing...
and my point was clearly missed
It was that we have no defensive depth bc Murray kept drafting all forwards in the first 2 rounds except for Guhle
He needs to build the system in a much more equal fashion
And for the record...
back in 2014 I was on here b!tching about those picks
Said it right away |
