But as far as the defense goes, we are in the shape we are in bc Murray has ignored defense in the 3 drafts since he got here

When I put this together, I almost couldn't believe it

1st round- drafted 3 forwards, ZERO defensemen, traded 2 picks
2nd round- drafted 4 forwards, ONE defenseman, traded 4 picks

So out of a possible 14 picks in the 1st and 2nd since Murray has been here...
he's only used ONE of those picks on a defenseman (Guhle)

You honestly think drafting a defenseman over Reino or Eichel in the first would help us right now? Other then Honka and Fleury I didn't really see any good D that could be drafted 2nd overall. Hell neither of those two deserved top 3 consideration. You'd have a point if we were drafting from 5-15ish but we were drafting 2nd overall. Taking a franchise player like Eichel and a possible 60-70 point guy (when fully developed) in Reino was exactly what we needed. We'd honestly be worse off there.

Other then Evander we have basically nothing on the LW. Hell he can leave after next season. After that we have zilch so that's why he took Nylander. Sergachyov would've been the better choice but you can't argue Murray has taken care of our future LW needs that is creeping up pretty fast.

Defense was supposed to be taken care of through trades. Which it did look decent to the naked eye but Kulikov didn't workout because of injury; which isn't Murray's fault. Bogosian was a dud from the start. I still have no clue why GMTM included him in that Kane/Myers trade. Franson was one of the top D available. He was holding out for a huge contract but signed with Buffalo. Sadly he didn't workout either.

Also it's not just Murray drafting right? His scouts are doing most of the leg work on these prospects just like any other organization.

This offseason Reinhart has to be traded for a top LHD and we must keep our pick and draft a defenseman unless we get a young top 4 defenseman in return for that pick and obviously other pieces from our end would be involved.

5-7 years ago was the emphasis of getting a #1 center. They went heavy on the picks trying to get one that was. They also filled in with the Myers pick. Zads pick, etc etc....

That's only been 2 drafts. We needed a center badly. A few of them. Can only pick so many players in each round.
