In a race/battle for the puck with their lives on the line, who would end up with it, Eichel or O'Reilly?
Neither. Matthews steals it and score. O'Reilly looks indifferent and Eichel pouts.

It's good to see this is a Leafs envy blog now and further evidence about how the Sabres stink and won't be good for another half decade. - kingcong39

Yes it does. Apparently saying Toronto will be good is not allowed. |

they're having a great season...the sabres?...not so much...
they also look like their primed for future success...
it's one season and they barely squeaked into the playoffs with a roster that was healthy the entire season |

it has nothing to do with that...
goading over the team is another story...

This is true, but also with a roster of rookies. Not even just young, but actual rookies.
They are built to contend from now until a long time. Im still waiting for us to look like we might someday contend |

I guess you can say I am goading over them.
They have a lot of young talent and oodles of cap space.
They could spend 15MM this year in FA and still be 10-12MM under the cap.
Im jealous. |

Last season I said Tampa would be better not Florida though.
I thought Toronto would be good relatively soon, but not this fast.

Toronto spends 7MM on Shattenkirk and they are still only at 52MM with all positions except back up goalie and 11-12th forward filled.
I'm jealous of how that team is built. - ImThatGuy

In a nutshell, here's the problem with giving O'reilly or Eichel the C right now.
- Jack is still maturing and may not be ready for it as of yet
-O'Reilly is signed for a long time and you can't give it to him now then take it away when Jack is ready for it.
-Sabres will re-sign Gionta on the cheap for next year and allow him to keep it for one more year, then revisit in 2019. - turbo044
Just from the outside looking in, that's what I'd do
Again: Just my opinion, from someone who has interest in the league but doesn't watch a ton of your games. But if Eichel truly is a guy who hates to lose and just needs to mature some, just wait until he shows signs of maturity and then give it to him, because he is a legit franchise player
ROR can suck it up and deal with an "A," or not. But again, IF, and I repeat IF, Eichel truly cares about winning more than losing, then wait until he's ready and find a way to speed the process along with some veterans who understand that you're grooming him to be the captain
Some might say it isn't a big deal, and maybe it isn't. But a lot of these guys are Alpha Dogs. If it's Eichel's personality to be an Alpha Dog and he cares about winning, then sooner rather than later, the Big Boy needs to eat and you build around that and anybody else who doesn't like it or understand it can get moved for pieces who do understand

I said what I did because not every best player on the team cares more about winning than losing, or matures enough. Patrick Kane is the best player on the Blackhawks, but would likely be a horrific captain. Toews is very good at what he does and is better suited.
And again, I don't know nearly enough about Eichel to say what he is or isn't presently or could be in the future, personality-wise. But he's a legit, No. 1, franchise center. If he truly is one of the guys who cares about winning, too, then he will figure it out and guys will follow |

They don't explain it like that, but one example of what I am talking about played out in Edmonton, with Taylor Hall.
The Oilers needed a defenseman, so somebody was gonna get traded. But if you watched enough and read enough about the Oilers, you could guess it was gonna be Hall because while he didn't say it, it wasn't hard to see that he thought he should be the captain and he wasn't necessarily gonna be cool with it being McDavid.
So he had to go, and you bring in Lucic who can help you in different ways but equally important knows that he is not there to be the captain but to support McDavid, who is |

Just because players are back from injury and playing doesn't necessarily mean they are back healthy, probably playing hurt - winger711
90% of the time, a hockey player is playing hurt. It's by far the most physically demanding sport.
I even think it was Gretzky or someone along those lines that said it. You play through the pain and you're basically never NOT dealing with some kind of injury. A bruise, strain, sprain, etc... |

Read the Buffalo News article yesterday where Jacky was called "pentulant" by a local writer.
I love the kid - but he's too immature for the Captaincy yet - he can't even get back to play D yet?
Is this a popularity contest with McDavid? He's not McDavid - had he been - he would have went 1st overall. - -JCDC-
Can you go back to NOT posting? Thanks. |
